Has anyone stayed in the Punta Cana area of The Dominican Republic?
Suggestions via RCI resorts or one of the smaller trading companies. I don't have II.

Yes we stayed at Melia Paridisis through RCI and loved the resort. AI fees were reasonable and we could definitely go back. We also visited their sister resort the Melia Caribe Tropicale and that was also very nice. I actually liked the beach at the Caribe Tropicale better than Paridisis and may try this resort next time we go.

Melia also has a new resort in Punta Cana Called Melia Palma Real or something like that but It was not built yet when we were there. :cheer: :hi:

Just returned from Ocean Blue in July -- used RCI and had a wonderful time.

DW said she misses the butler, food almost 24/7, swim up bar and the upgrades we got thru trading with RCI.

Ocean Blue is a trremdous resort that is all inclusive.

Thanks

Thanks. Another question. I'm not much of a water sports person. Are there other attractions in the area? Historic? Shopping?

this thread got me interested in Punta Cana for the first time
we were at the westin st john last year and loved it but its difficult to even rent let alone exchange [we own westin in maui] we have also traded into marriott frenchmans cove in st thomas [also own marriott in hawaii]

what are the ts in punta cana that would be nicest as far as 2 br units and good beaches, pools and kids activities - would any be similar in quality to marriott or westin?
seems that the ts might be self contained and not traveling to restuarants [think the country is pretty poor and we might just stay at resort]
thanks for any advice!!!

Hubby travels to the DR often to visit his company's facilities. He says it's probably the safest country he travels to in that area of the world. Haiti (where he has to be flown in from the DR by helicopter and landed behind the factory fence), Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

One of the reasons we want to go is because of his experiences in the DR and he wants me to meet some of the people he has gotten to know in another area of the country. I thought we could add to the trip by staying a week in a timeshare but I read so little about this area that I don't know what to choose and what else we'd do, not being water sports people. I too like a more Marriott like unit.
