Puerto Vallarto

Club Regina, Bougainvillias, Los Tulles, Mayan Palace

Nice places in Mex are not luxurious- it is Mexico after all. So, adjust your expectations a bit. Units are clean and spacious but often not terribly fancy or terribly new.

What are some nice places that may be available to trade into in Jan-Mar 08?

RCI? II? TPI? Pickins will be slim for nice places this close to Jan/Feb, 08.

Cabo

Jan - March is probably going to be a hard trade. You can get rentals however.

I guess it doesn't matter now. The wife says NO Mexico LOL!

Have your wife take a look at the Pueblo Bonito resorts at www.pueblobonito.com. I beg to differ with the above post that says Mexican resorts are not luxurious. On that website scroll down to the bottom and look at the photos of each resort.:)

Those were actually the top choices I was looking at! She just feels everything would be too expensive there. I am not sure what we will be trading. It will most likely either be a 2 br lockoff at VV @ Bonaventure week 5, or else points through Bluegreen.

Once you get to Mexico, it is not really expensive. From Iowa, I would check Frontier and Funjet for the best rates. We have friends that join us sometimes and they fly out of KC on direct flights to Cancun & PV. KCI was our "home" airport until this past April. We have not done Cabo yet, so I can't tell you about that.

PV is one of our favorites, but the Playa Del Carmen area is moving up as a fav. If you could get exchanges into any of the ones that someone mentioned in PV, it is easy to get around. We like the Sheraton for convenience, but the MP by the marina is really good too.

If your wife would try it, she would love it. We go to Mexico 2 each year for 3 weeks at a time. It is great. We started going for 1 or 2 weeks the first week of February back in 1999, and have bumped up to 6 weeks a year.

Thanks! I am sure she would love it there once she got there. We would most likely fly out of KCI no matter where we go because the DSM airport is, well, the DSM airport LOL! I am going to see what I can do to get into either Cabo or PV and go from there. I have to say though, bsing an ISU fan, that your avatar has got to go!:D

I agree. I've been timesharing since my parents bought their first week when I was eleven. My husband and I just recently discovered Mexico (specifically Mayan Palace) and it is now our favorite destination! It has taken forever to convince my parents and in-laws (both of whom own timeshares) to give Mexico a try. With all of the great food, near perfect weather, and wonderful hospitality it's hard to beat.

With regard to expense, compared with our trips to Hawaii, we spent more in a day with food and excursions than a weeks worth in Mexico!

Do it, you'll love it.

I second that...We were in Neuvo Vallarta at the Grand Velas Vallarta and I have never experienced a timeshare I liked better...... anywhere. It was fabulous, the beach, the room, the pools, the food and the service were sensational.

We have only been to the PV area and every resort we have seen so far is beautiful. I love the lush grounds and the pools are nice. We own two timeshares there and love them but we went to see the Grand Mayan this last trip too and the condos are beautiful but it is a very large resort, if you like that. It has everything, even a lazy river and restaurants, etc. Lots to do in this area too. Have a look here. :)

Don't get involved with the timeshare sharks on the street or at the airport unless you do your homework first to see what re-sales are selling for before you go on a timeshare presentation. :cheer:

Well I didn't want to go to Mexico but my wife and her friend wanted to go so I finally consented I think this was in 1997.
Our hotel at the time was the Melia in Cabo (Never Again) Since then we have been back many times I love it. We bought a timeshare from Solmar on that trip (Resale from the developer That was a lesson) We have been to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta. The Pueblo Bonito Resorts and Playa Grande in Cabo are very nice. I would also say the Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta and Club Regina at the Westin in Puerto Vallarta are also top notch. Now we love going to Mexico.

I totally agree! Hawaii was lots more expensive than Cabo, plus we're able to walk to town and all the beach activities from Pueblo Bonito Rose.

There is now a restaurant/activity program through Los Cabos magazine where you can buy vouchers before you go that give you a 35% discount on meals and activities. The restaurant vouchers have worked great for us--haven't used the activities part yet. You can find more info on the program at www.loscabosguide.com .
