We gave a week at The Royal Islander to some friends as a wedding gift, they are there right now and are having a great time in their *oceanfront* unit.

Yesterday I got a message from the wife- "We went out snorkeling today and I mistakenly left the safe open and unlocked. In it were my wedding & engagement rings, passports, all cash and the IPad. Not only did the maid not steal anything, she was kind enough to lock the safe and leave us a note. I cannot speak highly enough of the employees at the Royal Islander!"

Whew, of course I would expect no less, but it really would have been a sad situation if I sent them on a wedding gift trip that resulted in the loss of her ring!

You hear so many negative things about Mexico, I thought I'd post something positive for a change.

That's great! Thank goodness for that honest maid!

I've left our safe open with cash etc.
I've left camera equipment in the public domain
I've given too much cash to the store clerk.

All end with no problem, nothing lost, everything returned. Is there theft of course, where isn't there? Had my cc number stolen in MX (and in the US).

I think the "so many negative things about Mexico" is really from a few individuals that don't like and don't go to MX, posting second hand info and for some reason hang out on this board.

First hand information is always great to get no matter whether a good or bad experience.

Fantastic! Nice to hear of a positive story.

I would suggest that your friends post a nice comment on the Royal Resorts FB page or TripAdvisor when they return.

Great to hear. Can't say I'm surprised, as I've always found the staff there to be super-honest. I hope your friends will mention the maid on the card they fill out at the end, and perhaps also a letter to management.

I took off an expensive watch to work on a laptop near the market (Wi-Fi) and ended up leaving it somewhere on the couch when I went back to the room. When I discovered my stupid mistake, I went by the front desk and they had it. I know I was lucky, but it does go to show you that there are some very honest and nice folks working at the Royals.

I agree, Trip Advisor reaches a large group of travelers. I hope they give kuddos to the GM for the housekeeper's honesty.

Looking forward to our visit in June!

I'm not surprised either by the maid's honest actions. We routinely leave iPads, etc, lying around the villa when they clean and have never had a problem.

Also, on a trip to the RC several years ago, I left our $500 camera on a bench in the lobby. It was a Friday so it had a week's worth of pictures and when I realized I had left the camera several hours later I was fairly certain it was gone. But a quick check with the front desk located it in their lost and found, and after checking some pictures in memory to verify I was the owner, it was returned. Really can't say enough about the Royal Resorts staff, they are some of the best in the timeshare, if not entire resort, industry!
