Problems with Marriott's Shutterfly offer/promotion

Marriott is giving away coupons for a free Shutterfly book when you check in to resorts this year- you get a card that you have to give the concierge who then gives you another card with an "exclusive code". They never said there was any limit on how many times you can use this offer. We have so far received 4 of these coupons at check ins and one as a gift at a trivia game. We have used one already and tried to use another today. It didn't work and the Shutterfly people say you can only ever use one of the coupons once per billing address! Is this correct? So why is Marriott giving them out multiple times? Has anyone been able to use more than one of these? I assumed that since there is a code for each card then you could use it once per card and not once ever (like on i-tunes). If this is true then why are they giving these out so much like they have any value?

Thanks for any help with this, tlwmkw

I have never heard of any such restriction and also receive similar codes when we purchase a camera on BestBuy.com. Can't say that we have ever used most of the codes. We got one at Kauai Lagoons last November and it expired on December 31st 2013, so it went unused. We have another one that we got in Curacao, but haven't used it yet.

ETA: Looking at the T&C on the back of the card we got in Curacao, it does mention the once per billing address limit. Not sure why MVCI would happily hand these out, though I suspect that many people don't bother using them and MVCi just gets the cards for free from Shutterfly. Shutterfly offers them as a loss leader hoping you will order additional pages or upgrade to a larger or better book. Since they are free from Shutterfly, I guess they make the rules. The reps at MVCI don't know or don't care about the rules.

I saw the comment on the back of the card but since there are exclusive codes I thought it was one use per card/offer. I think this is very misleading. We have bought books through shutterfly in the past but don't know if we will continue to do so now after this.

I guess I can give them to family/friends to use.

Aloha
We had two last year that expired 12/27/13. Of course I waited until the last minute but ended up using two email addresses and two mailing addresses. Fortunately I have a pobox and could use.
I have a new 2014 coupon and am waiting until later in the year to use it. Hope it works.

Based on the OPs experience, you may need a third email address (easy) and a third mailing/billing address (not as easy).

We have received these cards at every checkin for maybe the last year or two. As far as we are concerned, they have no value. It's not something we would ever use, but I know some folks enjoy making those books. If the resorts are going to provide a gift at checkin, I wish there would be a choice. Most of the other items we have received in the past have had some minimal value to us, but I guess those gifts cost the resorts money, where these cards may not.

If they are going to continue to provide the cards, there shouldn't be a per-address restriction on them. But I guess cooperative neighbors and friends could help you get around that restriction.

It says right on the back of the card "Offer valid for one-time redemption per billing address." I gave three of them to friends or family and it just reminded me I haven't used the one I kept yet.

I think though that the unique code confuses the issue.

I used ours last October, so gave this month's coupon to my daughter to use - at a different address. We really like our book. All you pay is shipping, and because so many pictures never get printed because of digital files and FB and all, it seemed a good way to preserve some important photos. And, you can add commentary. My book had absolutely nothing to do with my Marriott vacation.

I was surprised to receive this very same offer twice from our local Safeway during the last several months. Their coupons are good for a month whereas the Marriott we just received expires in October. The Safeway coupons have the same restrictions, so I knew I wouldn't be using them.

For a second address, I believe that if you add something to your regular address like "Suite 100", Apartment 1, etc. that it will not get flagged by their computer.

We did this with a satellite TV outfit. They were offering new customers a great deal and offering their loyal customers a crummy deal. So, we switched names between me and my spouse and then added on the apartment/suite ID.

You could also slightly change the spelling of your name. Add an extra consonant or something.

I was able to use the coupons twice but under different accounts with the same mailing address. Created the book under my account, emailed it to my husband who then ordered it under his account (which he then created). Few more steps but saved the 30 bucks that way.

I love the Shutterfly products and purchase them often. I have also had good luck with using promotions for both my own and my husband's account, even though we use the same mailing address. I even use my own credit card for both with no problem.

I just ordered two free mousepads yesterday.

I didn't realize you could email a created project and let the other person order it. I probably should have, since they always offer to share the products. There have been a couple of times in the past that I've uploaded the same pictures to both my husband's and my own account. That would save some hassle for sure.
