Just curious if anyone has had any luck using Marriott Rewards pts. for a 2 BDRM villa ? I was told by a Marriott advisor that my chances (in Hawaii) are slim to none getting a 2 BDRM. 1 BDRM yes, but 2 BDRM unlikely. We have a family of 6, so a 2 BDRM is necessary. Thanks!

Just recently I made a reservation for Kauai Lagoons 2-br for Sept 2012 using MarriottRewards Points. (150,000 points for 5 nights: 25,000 points/night, plus 2 5,000 point upgrades/night, 5th night free of base points, but not upgrade points). I think Kauai Lagoons only has 2-br's.

I spent 5 nights at Waiohai in March of 2009 on MR points. They have only 2BR units. A friend of mine redeemed a 2BR at Ko Olina this past June on points as well. They're out there, but I'm guessing pretty limited.

Have not done it in Hawaii but I have done it at Grande Ocean in HHI and at Cypress Harbour in Orlando.

Just made a reservation at Ko'Olina for next September in a 2 bedroom. You need to use 2 upgrades (5K each).

Just a reminder...

....MRPs aquired through trading your unit for MRPs are not allowed to be used to reserve a MVCI unit. If you have points aquired from various sources, it appears they can determine where your points came from. Make sure the points you want to use did not come from trading your unit for MRPs.

Cheers!

Standard MRP's through credit card purchases and when I purchased our timeshare from Marriott  . I hope to trade my week in Myrtle Beach for a week at a resort in Hawaii, and then use points for 5 additional days at a different Marriott resort. Just hope I can "sync up" the dates.

I have asked on two occasions (but not for three or four years) how many of my points were restricted in this way and in each case I was told they do not monitor the source of your points and have no way to track that, even though the rule implies that they do. The only people who could get caught by that rule were those whose points came exclusively from trading their timeshare for points. There are not many of those people except for Marriott employees (who cannot get points in the Marriott Rewards program except for trading for MR points if they own a timeshare, as many of their sales people do).

I've always been curious if they could actually tell where your points came from if you have a combination of points aquired from different sources. They do make a big deal about it. Not sure why it would matter to them. Maybe some day I'll put it to the test. :)

Cheers!

I don't know why a Marriott advisor would tell the OP that given the number of contradictory responses on this thread. From a purely business standpoint it would seem to be a very good deal for Marriott to sell a two bedroom stay for MRP's. That way they're giving away unsold inventory for a large writedown of a customer's MRP balance. In addition, they can also collect an upgrade sircharge as well.

I was surprised as well, and wondering why the heck should I keep using their darn Marriott Rewards Credit card! I realize time of year and resort will have a lot to do with it...sound like my best chance would be to try to reserve a resort where they only have the 2 bedroom units right?
