A few minutes ago I received a call from 866-763-7576 and the woman identified herself as being with Interval, knew my name, said the call may be recorded, etc. It sounded exactly like the calls we get from ii from their 800-822-2920 number. She had the script down pat. But it wasn't from the usual phone number. So, I was still a bit suspicious. The person wanted to know if I wanted to deposit my Desert Springs unit and receive a free bonus week. I told her that I didn't have a Desert Springs unit to deposit but did have a Shadow Ridge unit to deposit. She said that she would call Marriott for me and help me make the deposit. Mmmm... this has never been offered before. I told her that I preferred to just deposit it myself on-line and she confirmed that if I did, I would still get the free week. When I checked later on the ii "my units" site, I didn't see the notation that it would be eligible for the free week. Hmm...

When I got off the phone, I did a Google search and it came up on NoMoRobo as a Robo call as well as a number of other sites as dangerous or suspicious. I suspect that the person would need to get my login and membership details at Marriott. And perhaps was going to transfer the week into someone else's name or perhaps some other con?? It is surprising that she did know that I had a DSV unit, knew my name and my wife's name.... Maybe it was legit or maybe not.

I'm posting this here so that others will be aware of this potential s c a m.

Thanks for letting us know to be alert. I've never had II call and offer to deposit the Marriott either. They usually call to offer an alternate match to an ongoing search. Then they ask if I have any weeks to be deposited.

You handled it exactly as I would have handled it. That said, there are indications on the internet dating back as far as 2014 that this is indeed Interval’s toll free number. I guess a scammer could be spoofing the number, or they could have opened a new account with this old, inactive II number knowing it belonged to II at some point but that seems like a lot of work for a scammer.

I no longer take calls from II. They kept calling about an exchange request asking if I would consider a smaller unit, or a different location, or different dates. They always seem to push non-Marriott properties when I request Marriotts. Sometimes I would get 2-3 calls per week. Now I just don't pickup when the caller ID shows its them.

For what it's worth I have received legitimate calls from Interval International showing 866-763-7576.

You did the right thing. When in doubt, do nothing. I am wondering what the end game would be for a scam call of this type. I have not experienced such a call, so I have not thought it through.

I would think if there was some call to action, like you can only do this with me right this second, then it's a scam. If they told you it can be done online also, it definitely isn't.

I would like to ignore the calls but the reality is I've had 2 situations where II found an exact match for what I was looking for but still called before confirming. These 2 situations were some of my most important matches over the last few years.
