I thought the best use of my points would be to travel during HGVC Silver and Gold periods using exchanges via RCI due to lower point requirements.

i.e. 2BR SLV Fiesta Americana, Cancun HGVC 3500 pts should exchange for
RCI 2400 pts (BLU)

But when I look at www.rci.com this resort shows RED 1-52.

So if I completed this exchange through RCI during what HGVC has designated as Silver time will it cost me RCI (BLU) 2400 pts or RCI (RED) 4800 pts?

Additionally, since HGVC has 4 seasons -- PLY, GLD, SLV & BNZ how do they match up to RCI's 3 seasons -- RED, WHI & BLU?

Thanks for your help!:)

You cannot rely on HGVC seasons when making an RCI booking, even if you are booking an HGVC affiliated resort thru RCI. The points required for an RCI booking thru the RCI reservation system depends on the RCI-season. Look at page 43 of the Members Guide. A 2BR "red week" is 4800 points... that's 4800 HGVC points.

So what good are HGVC seasons? The HGVC season tells you how many points it takes to book a HGVC or affilated resort thru the HGVC reservation system, and when your home-week reservaion dates could be.

I understand what you are saying. I guess what I am saying is if I look at the seasons chart key on p 150 and the club reference on p 151 and decide to travel to Fiesta Americana, Cancun week 19 (which shows as Silver - according to the seasons chart key on p 150) how do I determine how many points this week will cost me if I do an RCI exchange? A HGVC exchange for this week will cost 3500 pt.

Is this week considered BLU, WHI or RED in RCI?

How do I determine, for future reference, what the season is for any property in the RCI system? and do those seasons match up to the season chart key/club reference in HGVC?:wall:

You need to look online in RCI's system, just go to the directly and look up the property and is should display the dates by color coding.

Here is an example of 1 with mutiple seasons....

Some places have Gold and Silver time in HGVC that is considered Red time is RCI, in those cases it would be far cheaper to obtain those in HGVC as your reservation costs are lower and the points value may be the lower. However if the season is Platinum and the resort is RCI RED then you will likely always be better to pay the reservation fee and points and save say 2200 HGVC on a 2 BR unit, (basically 7000-4800 points which at about .15 MF per point is worth about $330 still less than the cost of an RCI reservation).

Is there even a way to figure out the dollar value of an RCI point or does it change by where you are trying to book? For example, 4800 RCI points + reservation fee will get you a 2br in HGVC Seaworld or Bay Lake Tower in Walt Disney World but if you tried to pay cash to rent those 2 places the cost difference would be massive.

Also remember that HGVC pays on a fixed point grid not on the RCI Point values assigned. So obviously for some high end resort that require a lot of points you are getting a great deal using the fixed scale HGVC price.

For instance Residences at the Crane are high RCI point values but HGVC is a fixed price in HGVC points. 2 BR Crane 4800 HGVC points, but is worth 140,500 RCI Points in the very highest of season.

Now if I was also looking for a 2 BR at some nice but resort in Ft Lauderdale, I used the Wyndham Santa Barbara, a 2 BR there is still 4800 HGVC points but it is only with 59,000 RCI points, even in the highest season.

At the lower end of the point scale I tend to use other sources that I have and NOT use HGVC. But boy I like HGVC for the high value trades. They really make it worth it.

I thought OP was referring to a new exercise fad called "Pointing stretching" when I saw his post ;)
