We don't own any Marriott Points but own a week that has been enrolled in the points system. I am interested in renting some points. Without owning points, can someone rent me points and transfer them to me? I don't want to convert my week to points, just want to rent a number of points and have them transferred to our account so we can use them to find and reserve units.
We have had point owners rent us points by making the reservation for us but I'd rather have the points in my account allowing me to make those reservations.

Yes, as an enrolled weeks owner you are part of the Abound Programme so you can rent points from another owner.
If you were not enrolled, they would have to make the points booking and rent that to you.

Just a thought, I hope that before anyone rents points and goes through the hassle of an overly complicated transaction, they look at available rentals. I've found week owners are very receptive to a sure thing rental and usually accept an offer at much less than the posted price.

I have rented a significant amount of points over the last 4 years. Renting points in itself is a very simple process if you have points or have an enrolled week. The point owner gets their money and you get restricted control. It is restricted because you can't push the points out beyond transferred points use year so you use or lose. I already rented and have 2027 points in my account for 2027 planning and usage.

The complication comes in the runway for usage. The earlier you plan, the more likely of success. This is the same if you are using points, have someone rent a week for you using their points, reserving a week for usage or trading into II. If you are doing any of this in 2026 for 2026 and you are hoping for a platinum or shoulder season usage, you are already at a very significant disadvantage. At this point in the year your best bet for success is renting a week.

If you are renting for platinum or shoulder reason, this will likely be the most expensive way unless you find a last minute cancellation. Using Redweek, this will be the most expensive option because of Redweek fees and the collection of any local municipality taxes. Also, Redweek is now in complete control of the rental and relationship. You have no negotiation ability.

If you are doing this once, the overall process though simple is overshadowed by usage learning curve. Rent.

Is there a limit on the number of points one can acquire or use through the renting of points? Are there limits on the number of points an individual can rent out? I'm really trying to assess whether MVC would consider the renting of points as a threat to the points program. They may wave this on as a way to bail out those small point owners with an insufficient number of points to really do anything.

There is a 20,000 point limit to the number of points one can transfer in to a single account. They will waive this on a case by case basis. There is no limit on the number of points you can transfer out.

A question - "one can transfer in to a single account" - Does this mean someone could accumulate 100,000 points from 5 different rentals into a single account by buying from 5 different sources?

No. The maximum total one could accumulate into their single account in a year from all sources combined is 20,000.

*ETA: from all external sources, not counting what your account already owns, of course.
