I'm embarrassed to ask but PLEASE do answer honestly. I attended my very first sales pitch for Club Wyndham in Pigeon Forge, TN. It was a 2 hour presentation and honestly not that painful. At the end, they asked me to put my initials ONE time ONLY. I didn't sign or initial anything else. My VAGUE recollection is I initialed ONE time in a box labeled "decline" I THINK. But i definitely only put my initials onetime only. It was also towards the top of the page.

Now suddenly I'm worried that I'm going to get a bill or be on the hook for something somehow. I know this is stupid based on a single initial ONE time but I'm worried nonetheless.

To put my worries at ease, I went back to the sales office in Pigeon Forge, TN, 48 hours later and merely requested a copy of what I initialed. Astonishingly, they told me they already shredded the document. I asked for them merely to print out a blank page just so I can see the language and they refused saying each form is custom. Then I asked for them to merely write on a piece of paper "did not purchase" and they refused and, shockingly, threatened to call the police. NOT KIDDING.

Therefore, could somebody PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put my mind at ease and 100% confirm that it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to have done anything significant or be on the hook for ANYTHING whatsoever just by putting my initials ONE time on a single form.

Also, they never asked nor got any of my credit card information or banking information.

THANK YOU TREMENDOUSLY FOR RESPONDING. SERIOUSLY. I'M EMBARRASED THAT I'M WORRIED, BUT AFTER THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE A SIMPLE COPY, I got even more worried.

You didn't sign anything, and that should be a big relief to you. Believe me, if you signed on the dotted line, the process is not just an initial. You will be asked to sign many pages for a deed.

Relax and stop worrying.

Do they always ask folks to decline/initial at conclusion if they don't buy? Just curious if it happens all the time or do some folks just walk out without signing/initial anything?

ps: THANK YOU VERY MUCH for taking time to respond, SINCERELY. I hate worries!!

Did you receive an incentive for attending? It may be you signed a form that says you received your gift.

It is a TS sales technique.
The salesperson or closer probably said something like - the "special sales offer" you were given would not be offered again at such a great price.
Getting you to sign that you declined the offer , is a way to get you to further think about buying.

A corollary sales technique for existing owners is the :
" I looked over your file and they must have forgotten to have you sign off on your last offer , and so I can let you buy at that price ; even though
the price has gone up .......

When we bought at Bali Hai and converted our deeded weeks, they kept us in that sales office for hours, and we had a luau booked. They were ridiculous with the notary, the various people coming in and out of the room, and the "sign here," "sign there," and "sign this" and "sign that." We were late to our luau and got the worst table because we were late. I almost wanted to back out of the deal. We were staying at Shearwater and I was in love with Shearwater.

They would have you sign more than one initial.

Hell ya... I did get some good stuff.. but I do remember it said "declined" where I initialed ONE single time...

I know it's nuts to worry but when I went back 48 hours later merely to ask for a copy (merely to not worry knowing it was stupid), their actions and behavior really SCARED me. This was the very first time I ever went to a time share thing. I'd be terrified if I ever did business this way... sooo strange because the sales people really were shockingly relatively nice for the 2 hours.... but after their behavior when I merely asked to get a copy of a piece of paper 48 hours later has permanently scared me far far away... and now my imagination has taken over about how wacky they are.

I REALLY REALLY appreciate folks responding here... It genuinely is starting to make me feel better.... so THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. :)

Think about it: Timeshare salesweasels exist ONLY to make a commission on what you purchase. Of course they're going to kiss your a$$ for as long as they think there is money in it for them. Once you're a "Declined" mark, they have NOTHING further to gain from you, and you are basically dead to them. So their "cool" treatment of you is not at all surprising. I can guarantee that if you had purchased something, and went back to ask for a copy of things, they'd have treated you like their best friend.

Some of us (ok, ME) don't attend timeshare sales presentations. Not only is there nothing I'd ever buy from them at those prices, but I also know things from the other side of the story. I bought and sold all my timeshares (a number of them, over the years), all on the resale market. I never paid more than a few dollars for anything, and I sold or gave away everything when I was done with it at similar prices. The "gifts" they give for attending a sales presentation would never be worth my time to be held captive and sit through that kind of lying BS sales pitch. I know if the salesweasel's lips are moving, they're lying. Plain and simple.

You're good to go, and you can relax.

And btw, Welcome to Tug. Stick around and read up on how you can get a timeshare for pennies on the dollar, and often for free. In many cases, the reseller will pay all the transfer fees, so your out-of-pocket is zero. For real. If you haven't already done so, spend the $15 and join Tug. It's the best timeshare investment you'll ever make.

Did you have to sign or initial all 53 pages individually?

Too bad they just didn't provide me with a copy like I asked. This who worry thing could have been avoided and I wouldn't now warn people to stay far away based on their absurd claim that they shredded the document within 48 hours.

As mentioned above, it is just an age-old timeshare sales tactic to generate a Fear of Missing Out. If the document you initialed was not shredded within and hour after you left, it was indexed in the circular file and is now in the local landfill or paper recycling facility.

I think you received an honest answer when you asked for a copy, which they could no longer provide.

Enjoy your gifts and forget the rest.
