Looking at booking at Playa Grande in Cabo through RCI for December. We've been to Cabo once before but stayed in the corridor so we had to drive to the marina. Some specific questions for the area/resort.

1. There'll probably be four adults maximum in our group. I'm looking at booking a 2 bedroom (Max 8/ Pri 6). RCI resort detail says 2 bedrooms are two 1 bedrooms combined. Is it true? Not that it matters much but it would be nice.
2. The location seems quite convenient to the marina. Is it really walkable to the marina? We love walking and are in decent shape so this would definitely be a plus!
3. Not looking at All-Inclusive (AI) since we like to try local restaurants. We'll also have some in our group with restrictions (vegetarian and vegan). Any good vegetarian/vegan places close by?
4. Are there any grocery shops close by?
5. We probably won't rent a car since it's so close to the marina and we're planning to relax and mostly walk around. Is this a good plan?
6. Any other pointers from people who have visited the resort in the recent past would be great.

Thanks!

it is an easy walk to the Marina. I stayed at Grand Solmar in September and GS is a little further. There are plenty of restaurants in the marina area that will likely have the diets covered. I think the closest grocery is Walmart which isn’t walkable.

I’ll be at Playa Grande in November. Walking will be much easier then. September was HOT.

We are going for the second time to Playa Grande in November. We did not have a car and walked to the marina for half our meals and ate the other half at their restaurant at the center of the complex. Walking around the marina and town is easy, the hardest part being the height of PG, walk downhill to the marina and uphill to return. But if you are walkers, it will not be a problem.
We had a one bedroom suite and will again in November. I don't remember it being attached to another one bedroom suite. I'll post a couple of pics from the unit we had.

1. I don't know about the 2BR 8/6 lockoffs, but if RCI says so, maybe that's what they have? I've never seen one. (We own there and at Grand Solmar.) Here's the website for villa info in both sections of the resort - https://playagranderesort.solmar.com/suites and https://theridgeluxuryvillas.solmar.com/suites
2. The location is great! It's no problem at all to walk to the marina and town. We even walk to Medano Beach. At the end of the day, it's fun to take a water taxi home.
3. We eat everything, so I'm not sure about strictly vegan restaurants. I know most restaurants will try to accommodate you, but I'm not sure you can be 100% sure if it's vegan.
4. For basics, PG and Grand Solmar have mini markets in them, and there is an OXXO just down the hill from PG, next to the bus stop circle. I haven't been there in over a year, but there is a decent smallish organic grocery store a bit further down the Marina Blvd (California Ranch Market - https://californiaranchmarket.com/ ). We do big shopping at Walmart and/or Costco. You can take the bus/taxi. Renting a car for the day is about the same price as a taxi there and back.
5. We only rent a car for a couple of days at a time (we stay for a month). You may come out close to even when considering you'll have to pay $42/pp roundtrip for a shuttle between the airport and resort. Besides grocery shopping, having a car gives you some options to explore beaches and restaurants a little further out. You absolutely do not need a car if you want to just relax and unwind in town and at the resort.
6. Enjoy!

Hi Pam, If you’re only renting for a few days here and there, do you rent a car in town? I’ve always rented at the airport but that’s for the full week.

@buzglyd, I arrange the rental from Alamo in town. I don’t have the name of the agent right here, but I get a better price renting from him than I do at the resort desk, and he gets some credit. I can do car pick up and drop off at the resort as needed after that.

Thank you all for the info!

rpennisi - the photos look great!

buzglyd and PamMo - appreciate the info. I've pulled the trigger and booked the unit!

Yay! You’ll have a great time, @travel maniac. We used to stay out in the corridor, but ended up with some units on Solmar Beach back in the old days, when they were practically giving them away. It is really nice to be close to town. We’re so grateful for all our happy memories down there! Our kids and grands are super excited about joining us for spring break next year!

We are at Playa a grande right now. We walked to the marina. Not that bad downhill. We opted to take a taxi back for $8 for 4 of us. Worth it since it is a really steep hill. There is a promo going on right now for All inclusive for $79 per person per day. My husband and I did it for 3 days. Our daughter, son in law and 4 year old grandson did it for the week. The 4 year old is free, and he can eat all day long. I think I would do a combo of AI and A la cart. We got a private van through the resort for the 5 of us round trip to the resort from the airport. It included a 45 minute stop at Walmart to shop. $250 for the 5 of us. Worth it since I am handicap and have a mobility scooter. Upon arrival, they help you get everything to your room.

Behind El Squid Roe there is a place called Huachinango. Really good. They have great fish and a whole platter of sauces served with it. We brought our fresh caught Dorado there one day for them to cook it.
