Hi, going to pdc 7 '08 and deciding between these 2. no reviews here or on rci for Sandos. but Sandos rates quite a bit better on tripadvisor. any opinions would be appreciated.

Sandos looks a bit nicer and one reviewer said Sandos has the best and least eroded beach in the area. All inclusive plan is 3 meals $82/day. Sunset Fishermens looks like we would get more variety since it's only 2 meals $55/day and we could go elsewhere for lunch or even dinner. Someone on tripadvisor said smoking and Sandos was huge issue saying many guests were from europe and smokers were everwhere and no non-smoking section at resort restaurants. Anyone had this issure there or Fishermens?

anyway- vote please!
just me and hubby going (late 30's) w/o the kids. YEAH!!
here's what's most important to us (loosely in order of importance)...

nice beach at resort
good food at resort
nice, clean rooms (small is ok)
resort activities/ lively atmosphere
nice pool

We spent a week at Fisherman's with two other couples. We had an unbelievable stay. In answer to some of your concerns; rooms were great, food was good to very good, beach is adequate, we didn't take part in activities because we were trying to explore other areas such Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Tulum etc. We found the people at Fisherman's to be beautiful-We absolutely loved all of them(but, according to rumors, you should probably stay away from the timeshare tour). We are of the opinion if you don't explore the area soon, much of the flavor of this culture will be gone from the "Roo". If you have any other questions let us know!

Just for the benefit of anyone who reads this later.... (I see the question has had a lot of views) We wouldn't really recommend this resort - mainly due to the relentless timeshare hawks that are EVERYWHERE. As a rci exhanger we got the musty non refurb rooms and the required all-inclusive meal plan - not good. If you can rent from an owner or buy one cheap (we met a couple that did), go for it. We LOVED the area and want to go back. But I wouldn't stay there again on an exchange. I will post a review eventually since there aren't many recent ones.
