Maybe this is not really news but thought I would share my Houston Marriott stay as Lifetime Platinum Elite. Others may have similar experiences, my expectations are pretty low for Marriott to begin with.

Webpage for the Marriott Hotel in Houston boosts a new MCLUB open 24/7. Sounds great but after checking in the MCLUB is closed indefinitely despite what the webpage says and there is no cancelation allowed 2 days prior to checkin.

With regards to daily room service, not happening. After checking in front desk handed a note "as you are aware habits for most world travelers have changed..If you need trash removal please place your trash in the corridor" the letter reads...

Welcome to Marriott Bonvoy!

Yeah, the lack of services for the same or more money has gone on far too long now. Properties are now just using it as an excuse to cut costs. Unless business travel significantly picks back up, we may not see these things come back for a while.

Yeah, too many hotels using Covid as an excuse to lower service levels and save on expenses.

I’m in that rare group that’s pleased to not have a maid in my hotel every day. Pre-CoVid we’d leave the do not disturb sign in the door and I’d make a request at the front desk for no maid service.

I still prefer to see someone at registration. In December of 2021, we checked into a Springhill Suites the night before an early flight out of Fort Myers, FL. We did remote check in and received an electronic key. Granted we arrived around 10pm, but there was no one at the desk. Even when we checked out the next morning we didn’t see anyone. It’s the only hotel stay were we didn’t see a hotel employee at all. That had a really strange feeling.

It's all cyclical. It's happening as we come out the pandemic, but I don't think it will last

Hotels can't do this for too long as their Tripadvisor ratings will suffer

Right now, hotel rates are going through the roof. If hotels offer a shoddy service to customers that have paid $1,000/night, then they will suffer

I'm Lifetime Titanium (2550 nights) and usually get "thank you for your years of service sir" and most of the time a follow up of "your benefit allows you to X at this hotel". If they do not offer, I ask but seldom have to. If I were to go to a hotel that has a M Club / lounge and it was closed (for whatever reason), I'd be asking for free breakfast coupons.

Yes, I do believe some hotel operators have used Covid as a way to save money. A Fairfield in Raleigh, NC has provided a dorm-style refrigerator on the breakfast counter with microwaveable chicken biscuits and a nearby microwave (no directors for how long to cook) for a year. Meanwhile, a Fairfield five miles away in Cary, NC has the full buffet. ...but trying to be fair, these hotels do not have the staffing for full services. Many of their former employees have not/will not/can not come back. Every business is having the same issue. I've been trying to hire employees in a professional setting and get only a few applicants where there used to be more than 100.

I have found that Marriott is hugely variable across different properties. As both a plat and titanium member, I’ve been treated like a king at certain properties each time I stay (usually in Asia). Other times I would hardly get a smile and a terrible room placement. All of this was pre-COVID, and I don’t think things have gotten any better. When Starwood was around, Westin hotels had pretty good service no matter where I went. Now it is all over the map.

I’ve started staying at Hyatts more. They give fairly uniform (usually outstanding) service no matter which properly I stay at. As a globalist I have received a suite upgrade each time - and I have never had to ask.

You've been BON-VOYED!

I stayed at a courtyard in Feb and the Bistro was closed for our entire stay. So no breakfast offering at all even though I am Titanium Elite.

Many hotel operators are still using Covid as an excuse to save money, and as long as Marriott continues to let them get away without consequence they will just keep doing it!

Where is the discounted price for the discounted services??
