We're staying this week at the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar in Puerto Rico (an Interval trade) and wanted to share pics of a demolition site and sign for future site of a JW and MVC. The hotel being demolished was apparently the Hyatt Regency Cerromar Beach Hotel, which closed down in 2003. We're told Marriott purchased the property in 2014/2015 and demolition began 2 years ago. Based on 2 years of demolition and what remains to be torn down and rubble removed, it could be 2027 or later for a JW and MVC to be opened.

I am not aware that MVC ever announced a planned property in Puerto Rico. A Google search turns up nothing about it. They didn't even mention it during their Investor Day Event earlier this year when they were discussing potential future locations.

I didn't read any thread about PR Dorado Beach being a future site either. But...that is why I took a picture of the sign. Since there is no "application notice" on the sign after 2020, maybe the property was put up for sale again and MVC scrapped the plan.

So sad no other chain took over that resort. It was a gorgeous resort with an amazing pool. I remember that trip in 2001 and remember the Hyatt timeshares next door, that at the time had no clue they were timeshares or what they were.

It would have been awesome for Marriott to build there especially since they now own Hyatt TS as part of the Interval acquisition

Has anyone heard any updates on this?

If you go to the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar page, it has this notice: "Attention: Construction is currently occurring adjacent to the resort. Construction noise could be heard daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m"

Perhaps this refers to a new resort next door?

We were at the Hyatt resort a few weeks ago and they said they aren’t aware of any plans since the other hotel had been demolished. There are not many remnants left at this point.
