“Pittsburgh International Airport has unveiled the concept design for a new $1.1 billion terminal that is scheduled for completion in 2023.

Among the features are a larger security checkpoint area, more space for concessions, outdoor green plazas and a ground transportation area.

Officials say the terminal will reduce the time it takes to get from curbside to within the secured portion of the airport by 50% and the time to it takes get from the international arrivals area to the airport exit by 67%.

The project also includes a tripling of the number of covered parking spots at the airport.

The terminal will be constructed between the existing concourses C and D.

The board of directors of the Allegheny Airport Authority approved the concept design on Wednesday.”

When was the current terminal built? The early 90's? Pittsburgh really had a dumpy terminal before then..It really shouldn't need a rebuild now.

I have no idea why they are rebuilding our airport. It is extremely underutilized due to stupid politicians and overmarket costs to airlines. We've lost hub status, lost most of our non-stop routes, and they are currently spending $$$$ upgrading flooring and bathrooms and more. It's a much nicer airport already compared to many others that are more heavily used. It's sad to see so many empty gates. The genius politician who announced this On the local news said there will be "no cost to the passengers, the airlines will pay." Yeah, we heard that the last time, right before the airlines pulled out.
