I was wondering what photo sharing site everyone uses?

I've been testing out Flickr and Google Photos. Both are very nice and have their own benefits.

I was hoping people could let me know what photo sharing site they use and why.

I'll start.

I like Flickr because it gives 1 free TB of space and does not compress photos when you upload. You can also create and album and caption each individual photo.

I like Google photos because there is unlimited storage space, but the high res photos are compressed. The google assistant is great and automatically creates stories, collages, and videos based on your pictures. The search and facial recognition of Google Photos is also superior.

I love SmugMug for several reasons:

  1. It lets you customize the view of albums.
  2. It has a button to start a slide show.
  3. If you click on a photo, or run the slide show, it uses full screen mode.
  4. If you put comments in the IPTC header, it will automatically add the captions to the photos when you upload.
  5. There's a button for viewing all the info included in the photo's header.
  6. Unless you disable it, anyone can download the original file, including the EXIF and IPTC headers.
  7. You have the option of downloading all the photos in an album.
  8. You can upload photo's directly from my favorite photo management and editing program, ACDSee.

The only downside, it's not free, but that also means it's more likely to survive over the years. I've had photos on a couple different sites that are now defunct. If you want to take a look, here's one of my albums:

I use Flickr since it is free. I don't house anything there that is vital, so if they were to go defunct, it would just require more work to upload the photos to a new site.

It does seem that Yahoo is hurting, I used to read comics on there every once in a while and earlier this year that just dissipated, no announcement. Yahoo has gone through a couple of photo sharing sites if I recall correctly.

Started with Picassa and now use Google Photos and the native Apple photos app. I seldom share photos except by text or email.

Haven't yet reached the free storage limit on the Apple site so I don't have to choose yet which to make primary. I suspect by the time I reach that level, Apple will succumb and expand the free space limit.

Cheers
