Phoenix/Scottsdale, would you choose Orange Tree 1BR (No Kitchen) or Marriott Canyon Villas (efficiency)

I haven't looked into the Marriott yet.....I wanted a kitchen, and was hoping to get one in an exchange to Orange Tree.
But, the only available to me is a 1BR, but no kitchen.

It does have a Full Refrigerator (good), just no Oven or cooktop. (they said they could give us an electric skillet.)

I think Marriott Canyon Villas would be a better stay for us.... IF it is not too SMALL...and limited amenities in the studio.
(small fridge, and no living area, etc.)

We don't eat out much...so I have an interest in comparing Kitchenettes, and living space.

Have you stayed there (either)

Thanks

I am "intercepting" my own thread, before any answers.

I could pull a 1BR at Hyatt Vacation Villas near Palm Springs.....now I have three options to think about, and RESEARCH

I know that I'm not answering your question, but I'm curious about what time period you are looking to book.

We haven’t stayed in the units you asked about at the Marriott or Orange Tree, but we have stayed at the HVC resort.

This is a former Welk Resorts property. Marriott purchased all of their resorts and rebranded it to HVC. This resort is actually located in Cathedral City rather than Palm Springs, but still has easy access to all of the small towns in the area. It’s a converted apartment complex. The units are OK based on our stay several years ago, but they aren’t up to the normal Hyatt standards. Its a decent place to stay and enjoy everything the area has to offer.

Orange Tree has a microwave also and there is a Trader Joe’s really close.

1BR in Hyatt Vacation Villas in Cathedral City was terrible when I exchanged into it a while back. I won't ever want to go back there, EVER again. Mildewy carpet, leaky ceiling, seriously. I walked in and water dripped onto my head. I went back to the front desk and they changed us out to another unit. Still Mildewy carpet and crummy room but at least the ceiling wasn't leaking.

I would see if you can find Westin Kierland during that time, it is superior to Canyon Villas. I stayed at Orange Tree like 20 years ago and it's an OK place. Basic timeshare but not bad. I would choose Orange Tree over Hyatt (used to be called Welk) in Cathedral City. I didn't care for Canyon Villas so I really don't want to stay there either.

Sorry to hear that you had a terrible experience. Do you recall how many years ago you stayed there?

The Canyon Villas studios are pretty small. The 1BR is much better. We stayed in a studio for a week and it wasn't the best. I have several videos out on YouTube from Canyon Villas. I have no experience with Orange Tree.

17 years ago. :) Yes, it was a long time ago.
Thanks for clarifying that. They definitely updated the units since then. Still not up to Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, etc., but doable.

hmm....no replies............
I like to stay at Marriott Canyon Villas. We've been going there annually for about 15 years and (except for once in a 1 BR) stay in 2 BR units. IMHO, November isn't a particularly difficult in which to get an exchange. I usually go there at the end of January which has less availability. I'm exchanging using a Marriott Palm Desert. If you are trying to exchange with an out-of-network deposit, then maybe getting an exchange could be more difficult. The ii getaways may be reasonably priced and might be something to consider.

The only thing I 'see' is an efficiency...and I think that's too small.....hence my question about comparing to 1BR at Orange Tree

What are you searching with? I'm seeing more and larger units when searching with a 1 BR Marriott. I am out of network for the Villas of Cave Creek but see a bunch of 2 BR units.

I have two weeks. One trades about a 5 or 6 (1-10 scale)....I am trying to use that 2025 week.

My 2026 week trades about a 7.....I see a bit more with that, but nothing great.

Can you get Sheraton Desert Oasis? I would take it over Orange Tree or Marriott's Canyon Villas studio.

There is a Sheraton Desert Oasis week visible with my 2026 week at a stronger trader....but I want to use my 2025 week.
It, too does not have a kitchen on that check-in day.

I have Sheraton Desert Oasis, Marriott, Westin, and Four Seasons, minimum 1BR, kitchen as my request.
(I SURPRISINGLY secured Four Seasons for the following week....after Thanksgiving; now I am trying to make it a two-week stay.)

Four seasons is a nice resort that you'll enjoy.

Maybe your problem is you're trying for Thanksgiving, which is many locations is the highest travel demand index. When I'm trying to reserve the highest demand week for my Palm Desert timeshares, I always shoot for Thanksgiving to give me the highest trading power. If you keep the 4 seasons, consider adding the following week to your request. That is lower demand and you'll probably get an exchange.

My understanding is that the smaller unit does have a kitchenette at SDO even though it shows no kitchen on II. That has been discussed here and marriott.com shows a kitchenette.

There IS a SDI week 1BR with kitchen out there.....I hope that maybe within a week or two to get a 'match' (???)

...no replies...but did you consider that maybe you didn't include the dates you are looking for at Canyon Villas? I have a Christmas week there that I am about to cancel, but if you are interested let me know. Are looking for a rental or an exchange?

Thanks for the offer, but my ideal check in day is Nov 23, because I have a check in date of Nov 30 at Four Seasons.

I am hoping for an exchange.....if I don't get it, I won't go for two weeks, just the one.

@#1 Cowboys Fan

Wait for a 1 br to show up at the Marriott Canyon Villas or Four Seasons. You've got lots of time. before Thanksgiving.
And your request is set up correctly with the "kitchen required" checked.
Westin Kierland is very unlikely.
