"Phil Spector, the eccentric and revolutionary music producer who transformed rock music with his “Wall of Sound” method and who later was convicted of murder, has died. He was 81."

Phil Spector was, in my opinion, one of the most influential record producers ever in the business. His “Wall of Sound”, changed the music business forever. His work in the studio may never be matched and can be found in so many classics.

I posted this in Covid, because that is what he died from.

Thanks. This will be another case of until the medical examiner issues their final report, we simply won't know for sure.

California state prison officials said he died Saturday of natural causes at a hospital.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation would only confirm he had died “of natural causes at 6.35pm on Saturday 16 January 2021, at an outside hospital”. It added: “His official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner in the San Joaquin county sheriff’s office.”

Spector died of natural causes at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday at an unspecified hospital, according to a release from the California Department of Corrections.

He was a creepy looking guy. Talented for sure but not a good guy.

If you read the article, Phil Spector was hospitalized for Covid earlier, was sent back to prison, had a relapse, and died .

That's an issue we may be seeing worldwide. We need to not lose sight of the fact that simply because someone has Covid and dies, doesn't mean that Covid was the cause of death or even a contributing factor in the death. Of course, it may well have been however, not just with Phil Spector, but with anyone, the cause of death can only be determined by an autopsy and/or a medical examiner. We know that any news source can and more than likely will, sensationalize the event.

I'm in no way defending Phil Spector. The life he chose and crimes he committed speak for themselves. Even with that in mind, there's no denying he was great influence in music business and should also be remembered for that as well. There are many in that business, in my opinion, that deserve to be in jail and continue to wander the streets free.

Not everyone gets an autopsy, and cause of death is just a generic term in many old age cases. My father had vascular dementia, the blood vessels in his brain were clogged with plaque. His death certificate simply said “failure to thrive”.

The wording is interesting but yes, a cause of death can't always be determined or identified. And of course, many times there's no autopsy for various reasons.

Should the medical examiner or coroner be unable to precisely determine a cause, then “undetermined manner" is a phrase often used. Of course the medical examiner or coroner can use whatever terminology he or she chooses. They may use the term “undetermined” or “cannot exclude external causes”. This means that he or she can't rule out an environmental, accidental or natural reason.

I've always questioned just what the term "natural" means. Seems quite opened but, it just means that the death didn't occur because outside forces. It was found to be due to some "physiological" cause.
