I got an overdue maintenance fee notice today that came with the message that they will accept the deed back for $100. I'm thinking it was a good ride and that might not be a bad option. Last year's $460 MF will be a write off and I'm not feeling real confident that it will be back online by next June. Does anyone closer to the area have a good sense of the liklihood of timely rebuilding? The 2/1 update sounded like they were still assessing and hadn't really even gotten bids...

On the website, the 10/17/08 update says the tentative reopening date is not until 09/27/09. I don't know if that's still feasible. Why don't you call the resort and ask? I certainly wouldn't expect any earlier date than that.

It's so hard to unload a timeshare these days and there's a good chance you couldn't get $1 for your week, unless it's a prime summer or holiday week. Even though no one recommends paying to get rid of your timeshare, $100 doesn't seem so bad. I used to own at Peregrine but decided to sell it back to the company I purchased it from a few years ago (yes, they actually bought it back for a few hundred). My reason back then was too high MF's and fear about special assessments because of future hurricane damage. There's no guarantee that the same thing won't happen again since Peregrine is in a prime hurricane spot on the Gulf.

Of course, this actually depends on how you use your timeshare. If it's a fixed week and you go there every year and enjoy it, then by all means hang on to it. However, if you use it for trades or use it to get into RCI Points, then get rid of it. You can do much better in MF's per points without fear of hurricanes.

Peregrine update

Hi all,
I received this email today from Melissa at the resort:

thank you for your inquiry,
to e-mail our office directly please use:peregrine@peregrine10202.com
phone:979-848-8899
fax:979-848-8939
your message was forwarded to our Peregrine office, and we are happy to
help.

Peregrine repairs are continuing to be made. We are closer then ever to
settlememts with Windstorm
and Flood Ins. Once that occurs, we will be able to make full scale
repairs, and hopefully be ready
to accept guests by the end of the year.
Peregrine's website will be updated in a few days with new pictures as to
what progress has been made.
You will also soon receive a letter regarding time and date for this year's
annual meeting.
As more information is made availble to us, we will be glad to share it
with everyone involved.

Thanks, Melissa
