We need to add another PC to our mixed network (4 pc & 5 mac ). There is room on the router - wired & wireless.

This will be the first pc on our network has internet access so I'm alittle concerned about virus protection. It will also have our new financial, contact management and business management software on it. Up to this point we have used programs that were not integrate but mac based and haven't had to worry about viruses.

In the past, Norton came preloaded on one of our macs and killed the harddrive quickly, so one of the first things I do when we get a new system is to remove all the Norton products pre-installed whether mac or pc. Our ISP provided MacAffee and I install that on the pc's as a precaution but thats on systems that are behind the router firewall on a security encrypted system that get an upgrade on homeschool software 2 times a year and don't have general internet access.

What is a good/best virus protection that I can get for this new pc? and if anyone knows of a great deal on a new system, I'm interested.

Thanks
Emily

I recommend Trend Micro's PC-Cillin Internet Security Suite 2006. It is $49 for one license or $79 for three. It includes the best antivirus program I have seen, a software firewall, spam filter, rudimentary antispyware and is the least demanding on the hardware of any such product I've used. If you combine it with the regular use of the free products Stinger from McAfee, Spybot Search & Destroy, AdAware and Microsoft Defender (was free - if it has moved to paid status don't bother) you should be well protected.
