Paypal and future payments

I've had a couple of recent payments show up in my Paypal account over the last month. They were both for subscription services that seemed to renew on their own.

I probably authorized them previously in the fine print somewhere when I subscribed. However, I didn't intend on them just to have open access to my account. When I went into the future payment section on Paypal, I found at least fifty other companies that are also active, and some with fairly high transaction limits. Some were for companies that I only did a purchase, and not a subscription.

Anyway, just a caution for others, and it might be a good idea to check your future payment section in Paypal and deactivate the ones you don't want anymore.

Where is the future payments section? I just looked and could not find it.

Good question... sorry, I should've added that info.

On the summary screen after you login, click on the button that looks like a wheel or gear, located on the top right corner of the screen. And then go to the Payment Settings section (lower right on mine) and click on the link to Preapproved Payments. That's where you can deactivate them.

I had a heck of a time finding it. Finally did. Click on the "cog" at the upper right; then Payment Preferences. It will show up after you do. I only had one which was to pay eBay seller costs.

Thanks. : )

On my Acct., I see "preapproved payments," but not future payments, but I seldom use Paypal for things that would generate "future payments," so maybe I don't have any.

"Preapproved payments" is actually what you want to click on. If you don't purchase anything online, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

I use Paypal every day, but not for anything ongoing.

It might not be a big deal then. But, if you have any that are still active, you're giving them direct access to charge you in the future.

The two that charged me to renew my subscriptions were Pandora ($45) and ESPN ($79). I also had Sears, Kmart, Woot, and several other online businesses that were not subscription based. I immediately disputed the two charges with Paypal and got my money back. I'm sure I purchased them originally, but it would have been nice to get advance warning that when they were going to renew.

Good Tip: I'd hate to pay for something I wasn't even using, or aware of!
