I have reserved two (1) bedrooms and one studio at this resort for December of 2006 using "free" weeks I got for an assessement for Hurrican Damage. I have two weekly ownerships and one points ownership and having paid the assessment I figured I would give the Resort a whirl.

My friend has actually stayed at the Cancun RHC place and said it was quite nice but she hasn't had any other timeshare experience. I am bringing some neighbors with me and two close friends. I am scared this place will be a dump. I am really worried my friends will be mad at me if it is a miserable place. It will cost them $48 per person a day for the all inclusive and they will have to pay their own airfare but the rooms are not costing them anything. But if it stinks, even if it is free, it still stinks!! I have used RHC to stay in NYC, London and Rome but I have NEVER stayed at one of their own resorts. I know how messed up their record keeping is and I am worried their resort will be, in some way, as messed up.

Please if anyone has any imput on this let me know. I am losing sleep over this.

Hi Maralyn- did you read reviews on www.tripadvisor.com ?
They can be very helpful. Good luck

Just returned from a week at Park Royal Cancun and I agree with the last few TripAdvisor reviews. The resort is not a large, mega resort, more on the smaller, quieter side.

Marylyn,

My family has stayed at the Park Royal on two different occasions and we are going there next month. We have enjoyed our stays and have been treated well by the staff.

Hi, we stayed here a few years ago and the room was like a hotel unit with 2 double beds. I believe it had a small fridge but no microwave. The location is great since it is right across from La Isla (very nice mall) so you can cross the street and you are there. The beach is wide and nice and there are plenty of hotel people outside to see who is on the property day or night. I really like the pools; one lower one where the younger active people played and the upper quiet pool for the relaxing types. There is also a small Mayan ruin at the top of the "levee" that separates the hotel and the beach. We stayed in the other building (not the main one) so we liked going in/out without going into the lobby where people were hanging around checking in/out or asking questions to the desk staff. Decent timeshare but nothing special . . . they may have went to all inclusive . . . have fun.

I read all your posts and the trip advisor reviews and I now feel very confident about our planned trip in December.Thank you to all of you who posted here and those that sent me email and PMs.:p

I have one more request:I wonder if someone can give me a description of both the one bdrm and the studio.
Also the last poster said it was a decent timeshare, but is it really a timeshare, or more like a hotel?

I traded my week via RCI so it is a timeshare but they rent rooms out also. I can't tell you about a studio but here is a description from Orbitz:

Standard Room
Standard guest room with 2 double beds. Decorated with pigmented sand, paintings and furniture made by a known Mexican Artist which along with the pastel light colors ornamentation provide a unique caribbean atmosphere to the room.

Ambassador Suite
Superior ambassador suite with 2 double beds and double murphy bed. Includes kitchenette, mini refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, dishes, toaster, blender, in-room safe, and seperate living area.

Presidential-Executive Suite
Superior presidential suite with 2 double beds and double murphy bed. Includes kitchenette, mini refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, dishes, toaster, blender, in-room safe, seperate living area, and large jacuzzi facing the lagoon or the ocean.

From my recollection and experience,

The Standard Room (Studio):
Entering, the kitchenette and bar is on one side, restroom and closet on the other. Then a table and a large room with two double beds.

The Ambassador:
A studio room plus an additional room about the same size. In the Studio side, a Murphy bed replaces the two twins. The second room has a locking door, second restroom, closet and two twin beds. Each room has a tv.

Presidential:
An Ambassador room with a large balcony and jacuzzi located on the building ends. Most have two restrooms, but I did stay in one with one restroom.

Royal:
A Presidential with a Studio lockout.

The studio is larger than a hotel room. The Presidential I stayed in two weeks ago only had a mini refrigerator - no microwave, blender, etc. I was told I could ask for a coffee pot, but never did. The room still had the small room safe.

Has anyone used the Special Assesment Offer

Thank you for the information about the rooms. I am using the "free" rooms I got for the assement for Hurricane Wilma. Two of them are Ambassadors and one is a studio so all this helps.

My next question Has anyone else used the Special Assessment offer of 'free" rooms for a week at the Park Royal in Cancun?? You must pay a mandatory $45 a day per person in order to receive the room but we thought that would be okay.

I combined the "free" rooms from the Hurricane Wilma assement with points for the Presidential room I used two weeks ago - no problem.

However, my AI fee was $48/day. I probably broke about even with the AI fee versus eating/drinking on a tab or eating outside the resort. My wife used about half and the two grandkids under six (free) came out way ahead - they enjoyed the nachos and hotdogs. The best part of the AI is the convenience.

I am going to investigate this option this afternoon. What a good idea. My ambassador weeks are just that, weekly memberships, but the studio is using points. I bet they won't upgrade my accommodations since they were not point based. And yes, you're right, the AI is $48 per day.

Resurecting thread

Withdrawn- never mind I made the mistake of waiting until the last minute to ask a bunch of questions. I just deleted them all because any answers would have reached me after I left for Cancun. Thanks for all your help.

RHC Pyramides

Well, let us know what YOU think after you come back. I was in Cancun in September and they were working on the former Sheraton site which is right next to your hotel / timeshare so you might hear quite a bit of noise. At the time, you could even see the small Mayan ruin site on the levee top from La Isla. We stayed one night a couple of years ago at the Sheraton and it was very nice. My girlfriend and her daughter ate breakfast at the Pyramides then and they said it was not too good and pricey. This is before they went all inclusive. Well, have a great time and would like to hear how your trip went!
