Pans that are both non-stick and dishwasher safe?

I have a set of inexpensive pots and pans that are non-stick, got them at Costco at least 5 years ago, probably closer to 10. They are still in good shape, the only problem I've had with them is when I put one pot in the dishwasher (the instructions said to hand-wash them). The dishwasher really did a number on the non-stick finish.

I'm now in a situation where time is a problem and I'd love to be able to throw my pots and pans in the dishwasher. But I really don't want to give up the non-stick capability. Is there any set that can do both? Or is it a case of one or the other?

We recently just bought a set of Cuisinart cookware that is non stick. We read lots of reviews but there really isn't any good sets that can be washed in the dishwasher and keep their non stick and exterior finishes.

Some people indicated in their reviews and used them in the dishwasher with varying results. In most cases the exterior finish was messed up with repeated use in the dishwasher.

We had several old pans that we used in the dishwasher. They were cheaper ones that we had either gotten as wedding gifts or bought many years ago.

That said, I always hand wash our new set. I know it is a pain in the rear, but it is the best way to protect the finish of your new pans.

It's not the dishwasher so much as the detergent used in the dishwasher - the better they clean, the worse they are for non-stick pans.

I too would love something I could stick in the washer, and I do with the larger ones, on the top shelf. The frying pans are washed by hand. Somewhere there's probably a decent detergent that could be used, but I don't know what it is.

I have a set of non-stick cookware, given to us nearly 10 years ago.
We've always put them in the dishwasher, since day-one.

Just this year, the pans lost it. The pots are still okay. ... Lucky I guess.

I love my Green Pans that I got from either QVC or HSN online. I put them in the dishwasher all the time too.

I never put any of my pans in the dishwasher, the soap will ruin a good pan.

I've got All-Clads and I have no problem washing them in the sink. I don't put my knives in the dishwasher, so I've got to fill the sink anyway.

All Clad stainless can go in dishwasher, all other finishes cannot. We put our 2 stainless AllClad saucepans in DW all the time, no issues at all.

The non-stick and low-stick we do not put in the DW.

If it were really important to me to put my nonstick in the DW, I'd probably just buy something inexpensive and consider it to have a finite lifespan, something to be replaced periodically. Most nonstick is eventually going to need to be replaced anyway.

My Green Pans are terrible and we never put them in the dishwasher. Maybe they have improved them since we got ours. They were really slippery at first but no longer.

I bought a Circulon "Premier" set at Costco about 2 years ago. I choose this one because it was non stick, labeled "dishwasher safe," and would work on our induction cooktop. They are fine, and seem to do OK in the dishwasher. The one fry pan that gets heavy use is starting to look kind of dull on the inside and seems less stick-free, but I have come to accept that a nonsticky surface just doesn't last indefinitely. I've had several different styles and brands, and they all finally loose some of their slippery-ness - and it doesn't seem to matter that much how expensive they were in the first place. I've just decided to go with a moderately priced pan, and figure I'll have to replace the 1 or 2 that I use extensively every couple of years. Wiping the inside with a light coat of oil does seem to help some.

I'm thinking that I'll just get something inexpensive and try it in the dishwasher, I'll check out what Costco has. I'm also in the market for a dishwasher as mine has decided to not clean anything, but that's a whole other story!

I put my Kitchen Aid non stick pans in the dishwasher all the time with no problem. I think they have an enamel exterior. You can get them at stores like Marshall for not too much. Perhaps try a pan and see how it hold up before investing in a whole set.

I would think that enamel exterior pans with PTFE (Teflon) interior would be the most satisfactory. 'Good' hard anodized aluminum would be attacked by the very caustic auto dishwasher detergent. That stuff is nearly as alkaline as toilet bowl cleaner. In time it etches your glasses, making them cloudy. I won't be putting my copper clad pans in there for sure.

Calphalon nonstick is dishwasher safe and I have been washing mine for 2 years no problem. The nonstick is super cool to have as I hardly have to use any olive oil to cook anymore. I just spray with the Misto stuff and that's it. LOVE them but they are NOT cheap!

In my mind, non-stick and dishwasher safe are mutually exclusive. All of the better brands that sell non-stick pans say "hand wash" only. My Calphalon pans come with a lifetime warranty that is voided the first time they go in the dishwasher.

The beauty of a well used, seasoned regular pan is that over time it becomes non-stick if you care for it properly. Rinse it and oil it after use and it will acquire a natural non-stick finish after a while.

These are special Calphalons. My old calphalons were voided too with the dishwashing. These are awesome and with their new technology, it's not really a coating on top but built into the actual pan/pot itself. :)

It's called Calphalon Unison. New as of 2 years ago and well worth the $ for the convenience that's for sure. I got mine from Williams Sonoma. Here is the description:

Heavy-gauge hard-anodized aluminum with three interlocking nonstick layers provides excellent heat conduction and uniform cooking; exterior won't chip, peel, stain or scratch.
Includes both Slide and Sear nonstick pieces, each offering flawless release and convenient cleanup.
Slide surface effortlessly releases delicate foods like eggs, seafood and sauces.
Sear surface is textured to evenly brown meats and other foods.
Both surfaces have a durable nonstick interior for flawless release and convenient cleanup.
Tempered-glass lids.
Triple-riveted ergonomic handles stay cool on the cooktop.
Dishwasher safe.
Made in USA.
A Williams-Sonoma exclusive. (not true, can order from Amazon and Macy's too as well as Calphalon's own website).

My sister took my mom's calphalon pans she had for years and looked great(hand washed only). After a few months of putting in the dishwasher they were ruined.

My repair guy says about 40% of his calls are "look what my dishwasher did to my pots, pans and knives, can you fix my dw?"

My All-Clads are not non-stick and I still don't put them in the dishwasher.

I bought the Calphalon Unison set about 2 months ago. I wanted non-stick, dishwashable and found these on sale at Macy's for about $100 off the regular price. They are great. I went back a couple of weeks later and bought the grill pan, which was sold separately. The set is truly non-stick and dishwasher safe. Definitely worth the cost.

I'm going to check out the Cephalon Unison. I seldom wash pans by hand and my cheapie pans are okay. My problem with non-stick is that the skillets 'burn." Not the food which I would like to sear, but the pan itself.

Well, if she had the Calphalons for years, they were not the new type. No Calphalon was truly dishwasher safe until the Unison brand came out. So I am not surprised. I have ruined nice pots before when I was too lazy to wash them by hand and put them in the washer.

I have been washing my Calphalon Unisons every day since I bought them about 2 years ago (pretty much the day they came out with them!). They are as gorgeous and nonstick and shiny as the day I bought them....
