Which is the best property in Palm Desert at this time of year ?

Well, that's going to be subjective of course. My vote is always dsv2. Others think dsv1. Have not heard a lot of votes in the past for Shadow Ridge, I personally do not like the rooms. Not a bad place, just don't like the rooms.

I guess a key question, is what makes a place great for you?

We are currently at DSV 2 in Acacia section, with a view of Golf Course and distant mountains. We like it but next time around, I would like to request a unit with water views.

We were at DSV 1 over Christmas last year. We personally always prefer 1 to 11. The units are bigger and, depending on which building you’re in, it’s easier to walk to the hotel. They had a very good, but very expensive, Christmas buffet at the Rockwood at the JW last year.

I get a kick out of posts requesting something like "what is the best..."

I had read once that Harry Truman once discussed the 49-51 decision. If they are both really close, that it doesn't much matter which one you choose - - either choice is reasonable. So, I think that it doesn't really matter. All choices are good ones.

The OP didn't mention any of their personal info. If you have kids, go to Shadow Ridge. If you are booking a studio and want a King bed, go to DSV2 or Shadow Ridge. If you are booking a studio and want a pair of queen beds, choose DSV1. If you can't accept walking up a set of stairs, choose Shadow Ridge (they have elevators whereas DSV1 and 2 don't).

DSV1, DSV2, DSV2 (Jasmine Court), Shadow Ridge Villages, and Shadow Ridge Enclave - - no matter which you choose, you will probably have an enjoyable stay.

BTW, without me telling you what my own needs are, can anyone tell me the BEST VEHICLE that I should buy? What is the BEST city to live in? What is the BEST city in which to live in retirement?

What's the best restaurant in North County? ha, ha.

You nailed the differences for Marriott Palm Desert resorts. We own and love Shadow Ridge (kids=yes). No issues with the rooms other than the Enclaves side which we don't own, but have traded into (bad idea). Many people lump them together out of ignorance, but they are separate reservations just like DSV I and II.

I agree our first choice is Shadow Ridge Villages and least favorite is Shadow Ridge Enclaves. The partial wall of Enclaves is an issue for us. We have been to all Palm Desert Resorts and have enjoyed DSV 1 and DSV 2. We have more of a resort feeling at Shadow Ridge. DSV1 has to be one of the largest units Marriott has.

Pros and Cons to each of the resorts and all are nice. We were surprised how much we enjoy Palm desert in January. Makes for a nice winter escape that is easy and quick.

Our family of 10 - grandparents, parents and grandchildren, spent New Year's at Shadow Ridge Enclaves a year ago. We had 2 - 2 bedroom units and a 1 bedroom villa. We requested that the units be close together and near the pool. We were fortunate to have all units assigned on the same floor of the same building, overlooking the pool area. The pool was heated and movies were shown on the big screen TV at the pool. Bar-be-ques were just across the parking lot, as well as a small play ground area and the exercise/weight room. We've stayed at all four of the Palm Desert properties and each one has something special to recommend it. Because of the unique circumstances of this trip, the Enclaves worked perfectly for our group.
We're doing a similar trip this New Year's but at Canyon Villas in Phoenix. Looking forward to another special family moment.

Hi Lisa, we stayed at the DSV-II one time in the Desert Willow Building and had a nice view over water and mountains too. I also liked the tree on the side as you can see in this picture. I will try to find the condo number because I posted about it here on TUG. We love the desert property so have been there quite a few times.

We always asked for DSV-I and requested our favorite building but we had to use phase II and we really liked it.

PS. It was condo #2817. I found the old thread from about six years ago.

Here was this Februarys view in dsv2. We had a lot of ducks each day. Kind of looks like the picture posted above by taffy19, but a little further down.

You are asking my secrets now. I had to find a Site Plan first and then my pictures to show you. :) My favorite buildings are Q, R, and S but I don't remember in what order.

We have stayed in all three several times. The reason we like them is that we have far away views and you can see snow on the San Jacinto Mountain range in the winter while we are in the desert!

You can also watch people playing golf but these buildings are not close to the lobby, pool or main area. I didn't write the condo numbers down under my photos so can't give you that but we always ask for upstairs. Here are a few old photos that were posted on TUG before.

None of these buildings are close together and the view is good everywhere in this section. We stayed on the other side too of this lane twice and the view was still good with lots of grass in between another row of buildings. We saw the lights at night from the other condos. I believe that they are Jasmine Court?

This is looking over water to MDSV-II. I remember walking over the grass from Phase I to Phase II. We need to go back but are no longer owners there. We used to use ACs but not the last few years.

Lisa, I found our room and building number too when I looked at the original photo album.

Marriott Desert Springs Villas II.

Steve, do you still remember your condo number? I try to write them down now under the photos so I can let TUGgers know. Also, your photo is so much better than mine that was taken with an Apple iPhone 4 on May 4, 2012.

PS. My first picture in post #9 may have been taken from downstairs when I walked around but this one is from our balcony and looks similar to yours.

I do not, but I know it was building 375 right by the quiet pool. We had the top floor, very last 1 BR on the "right" towards the pool. If there was a building map, I could identify it. Probably the room all the way to the left would be closer to the water, i.e., furthest from the pool.

Looks like you were in building 419.

I have a very old picture of the Site Plan that I scanned but you can find them here on TUG for many resorts. Someone will post it as I looked quickly but didn't find it yet.

Yeah hubby constantly critiques the golfers (to me) even though he does not play! :D
We don’t play golf either but our friends were avid golfers and would critique other golfers constantly when we were sitting on the balcony together. It was fun.

They owned a condo at the DSVI a year or so before us and they still own it today but never use it anymore. I would love to rent it from them but they let it sit empty because they hate the hassle to reserve it. We are from before the time that you can do it all online.

I have told them to let Marriott sell it for them several years ago when the condos still had some value but they didn’t listen to me.

I wonder how many Senior Citizens are like them so I keep telling my husband not to let this happen to us.
