Came to NYC for a weekend getaway, one night at the Conrad NYC and one night at W57th in a 1BR+. I always anticipate an owners meeting, and depending on the timing and what they offer, we will sometimes take it.

This offer came late, we were having a late lunch before check in when they texted…$250 off of MF, or 200,000 HH points….yeah, this is a pretty good offer. While maybe cash for MF is king, we are currently hoarding HH points for a future Japan trip where we will Hilton brand hotel the whole vacation, so we took the points.

This is the first meeting where we have been resale owners (for W57th no less). Was definitely wondering what the angle was going to be for a resale owner.

“Joe B” was friendly, and also fairly to the point. We could trade in our resale 8400 studio+ for a 11400(?) 1 Br at the “newer” Central at 5th, “for about the same MF” (not really, ~$400 more a year), for $13K, and a couple thousand bonus points (he tried to pass off the 11400 points as “bonus”, and we don’t have to pay MF until 2025 🙄, yeah nice try).

I said we were fine with what we had. In the past, this is where there would be some additional attempts to sell us something, either with more bonus points, or a cheaper deed, but I guess since we are resale, he immediately shut the sales presentation down and sent us in our way to the closer (where we of course also declined).

We were out the door on W57th in under 45 minutes, with 200,000HH points already in our account.

200,000 HH points is a fantastic offer. I had 150k at La Pacifica and it powered our hotel stays in Portugal.

I went with the dinner and Broadway show for 3 people because seats way in the back balcony during the event week we are staying were running $250++ each. So this package had value for us.

Would like to return to get those 200k points.

I have established the new standard.

I’m sure it must depend on the time of year and maybe some sales quotas or other factors. It was pretty busy in the sales office when we were there. I didn’t overhear what other people were getting, which I usually try to do.

I’m also kind of glad Max didn’t come up. I wasn’t sure if he saw I was Max, and would get into questioning why I had it by looking at my deeds and history. Not that I really care one way or the other, but I didn’t want any controversy to lengthen the presentation time.

I just accepted a dinner/show offer from them for Thursday so have my upcoming owner update on Friday this week! Last time, the salesman realized I wasn’t going to buy, so instead of letting me go early, he made me sit in timeout until about 40 minutes passed before releasing me. I wonder if that will happen again.

Realistically, I think that they should do this more often - from their standpoint. This would likely the diminish owner update freeloaders (a cadre of which we have been a part) if there were more of a time penalty. We've never had it happen. Then again, we have not attended one in several years.

Cheers.

IMO not freeloaders. :) I view it as ROI for overpaying retail on our first timeshare.
My point exactly! I want all the “freebies” they’re willing to throw my way for a full price retail purchase, of which I discovered TUG one day too late to rescind.

We are all resale at this point and we have attended several of these. I consider it (us) freeloaders for these :)

But we can all view it differently.

Yep, trying to recoup my retail purchase, one bottled water at a time.

Nope. No bottled water to contribute to the plastic pollution. We can benefit from them in other ways that don't have negative impacts like this.

Cheers.

I made that a NY resolution this year, purchased a Brio water cooler and refill 5 gallon bottles at the water store for $2.60. Love having hot, chilled, and room temp on demand. I don't miss buying the Costco flats of water.

I gave up owner updates also, I tell them I'm too old to buy any more :)

I have had this happen twice, once at HHV where the salesperson explicitly said he would get in trouble if he finished the preso early, so he went to get coffee for maybe 20 mins or so just left my wife and me at his desk.

With Marriott, after one sales guy we realized we were not buying, he basically just did small talk until our time was up. Then he went to get the closer, so more time. That was much more annoying than just leaving us to wait in quiet.

Obviously its better still when they just release you and not waste anyone's time.

If they just leave you at a desk and move on to other fish, then it doesn't waste their time. Just yours. Surprised that they don't do this more.

Cheers.

I agree. We were offered and took 125K HH points at Ocean Oak in June. That was the highest that we have been offered there (previously it was 80 or 85K pts.) I also will take $250 MF credit, when offered. My waste-of-time (sorry owner's update) price has increased but it also must fit into our schedule.

I have had this at marriott presentations since I am resale only with HGVC and HGVC don't offer me updates. Funny thing is, I bought retail (twice) at update with MVC after owning only resale.

Wife and I just pull out our phones and do what we usually do. Another 40min for what gift I agreed to is fine.

I'd be fine with it either way. mrs. brp, though, is having none of it. From my point of view, we miss out on some good offers. But this is a joint proposition, so we both have to be OK with it for it to work.

Cheers.
