I have tried to using the discount code 2vc and 7vc when looking to make a reservation at a marriott vacation property but they show invalid. Are there no owner discounts anymore or have the codes changed. Thanks

which property and when? These codes aren't always available.

Is there availability at the property when you search without the code?

I used to find availability using 2vc on a regular basis, but it never seems to be available any more. Has anyone found any availability recently?

I have. DSV2 for example some of February is available via 2vc.

Is there a primer somewhere as to what these codes are and how they can be used? I've never understood it, years ago I tried with no success. Thanks.

Plug the relevant code (7VC, 6VC, or 2VC) as a Corporate/Promo code when you run a search on the hotel website. If the discount is available (applies to MVC and Vistana properties) then it will show up like in the prior post. Pay attention to the cancellation policies - they are much better than timeshares, but can be quite restrictive in some cases (e.g. 21 days).

  • Presidential and Chairman's Club DC Members - 35% off (code "2VC")
  • Executive DC Members - 30% off (code "6VC")
  • Select and Owner DC Members and Weeks Owners not affiliated with the DC - 25% off (code "7VC")

Keep in mind, the discount is based off the most expensive standard flexible rate. So even if available, you will never get 35% off the cheapest rate, it's going to be much less of a discount, and sometimes using the code results in even higher rate than the cheapest rate without the code.

I've never seen that on a timeshare property, would be odd!

Interestingly I wanted to add a day during high season in July at one of the Spain resorts. It was a Friday and it was cheaper with the discount code than when using points. Conversely, it is way cheaper staying with points Sunday through Thursday staying with points.
I didn't post this initially because @Gemini Chica or @bazzap stated they often use the discount code to go cheaper off season. Following from @echino 's post I thought it relevant to show sometimes even a discount from the highest rate may be beneficial. I don't often see better rates than the discounted one when checking MVC resorts. This is frequently the way when checking hotel stays using AAA discounts etc.

Dan - thank you for that.
