We are deeded week owners at NCV and we love it so much we have always used it yearly but I would love to learn the ins and outs of II ( and how to use it well) so that when we are ready to try trading we do everything correctly - so we can get what we want. Does anyone have a recommendation on where I can learn? ( A Youtube channel etc)? Thanks

The primary idea is to reserve a high demand week, like summer, right when inventory becomes available and deposit it right away in order to maximize your trade value. Also make an instant trade, if available, right away or place a request at your desired resort(s) and dates. The more options you request the more likely you will get a trade. Still, you have to wait for owners or the developer to put units into the system.

U-tube Destination Timeshare is a familiar tugger and an experienced MVC owner using II.

MVC uses II as their internal weeks exchange platform, so you will get preferential access to other MVC weeks inventory in II, before it is released to the wider II membership. There is also a small amount of home resort preference, so if you want to go back to NCV, but for a different date, you will have that choice.

II can take a bit of getting used to, you can't choose the views, but with a bit of experience you can work out what resorts honour the unit codes that are assigned to II reservations and which don't. You will get lower unit placement preference than MVC owners using their weeks or points, which could get you a dumpster view at a resort, if you are travelling in peak season or to somewhere that has dumpster views, not all resorts do....

Some timeshare brands release inventory 2 years ahead and others (Hyatt, DVC and Four Seasons) only 5-6 months ahead. Just because somewhere is in the II resort directory doesn't mean it will ever become available via II. e.g Only Disney Orlando is available, so no chance of getting Cali or Aulani, and Westin St John is also very unlikely.

Some resorts only release smaller units, others a mix. e,g Westin Lagunamar and Westin Kierland only seem to release studios and 1-beds with the occasional 2-bed available in low season.

There's great vacations to be had via II, so give it a go, be prepared to learn along the way and enjoy!

We have almost exclusively exchanged for over 25 years, normally reserving and depositing our week's 11-12 months in advance. I do not recall a time when we did NOT get what we were asking for, and we mostly traveled according to peak school schedules (because of kids and spouse's work). As a recent example, we were in a 2BD ocean view Ko Olina unit (above the tree line) over spring break in April.

We have exchanged some of our units yearly. My advice is put your requests in early and be somewhat flexible, i.e choose several dates and/or several resorts. We have really enjoyed the ability to go to many places where Marriott doesn’t have resorts.

Do you mind if I ask what you traded to get that week at Ko Olina?

I think the key is requesting early.
MVC owners can deposit 13-12 months ahead. Have your request (either deposited week or request first) in place by then for maximum exposure to deposits.
There are video tutorials of how to place a request or do a manual/instant exchange into currently available inventory in the II community. That is also a great place to ask questions.
Also, the faq at the bottom of the page on II has lots of info and the buyers guide (II rule book) is also at the bottom of the page under legal.
