I'm also submitting this as a review to the review database, but since this resort is so new, I thought the HGVC owners on this board would benefit from this as a board post, with some photos.
My wife and I just returned from a three-night long weekend at Liberty Place by Hilton Club in Charleston, SC. We came away incredibly impressed by this property. In almost every way, this property was one of the best timeshare properties we have ever stayed at. We booked a BR1 One Bedroom unit using 2,880 HGVC Points. The room furnishings are modern and top notch, and the overall property has a very upscale feel, even more so than most other HGVC and Marriott resorts we have visited over the years.
The location is excellent at the corner of Calhoun Street and East Bay Street, just a couple of blocks from the Charleston Aquarium and the boat tours that depart to Fort Sumter. While this location is a bit farther north than the area between Market Street and Broad Street where we have typically stayed previously in hotels (and where most other hotels, restaurants, and shops are located), the more northern location was not as big of a drawback as I had feared prior to our stay. It did mean a bit more walking, but that helped us walk off some of the great meals we had at several of our favorite Charleston restaurants. The market area is about a 12-to-15-minute walk, and most everything, including the south Battery area is less than 30 minutes by foot. We walked everywhere, including to and from dinner every night.
Due to the fairly small footprint of the property, Liberty Place only has valet parking for $18/day for HGV members ($38/day for other guests). We parked our car on Friday afternoon when we arrived and didn’t use it again until we left on Monday morning. They have a full-service lobby bar open from 3pm to 10pm daily. Happy hour is 3-5pm. There is space available for a marketplace that they said would be opening soon.
Our room was very well-appointed with a large 65-inch TV in the living room and a 55-inch screen in the King-equipped master bedroom. The kitchen featured Samsung appliances (Full-sized refrigerator with icemaker/dispenser, microwave, four-burner cooktop, oven, dishwasher, and Keurig coffee maker). We ate all our meals out, so we only used the kitchen for coffee one morning and to store our water bottles in the frig. The bathroom featured a walk-in shower with a regular spray head and a hand-held sprayer as well as a shower bench, private water closet, and single sink. The lights feature modern rocker switches with dimmers and the window shades are electrically operated by wall switch, with both translucent sheers and full blackout options.
There are so many outstanding restaurants in Charleston, in three days we could only scratch the surface, hitting two of our favorites for dinner – 82 Queen and Poogan’s Porch – and trying out one place that is new to us, Revival in the Vendue Inn at East Bay and Queen St/Vendue Range. All three were exceptional. Revival was a particularly pleasant new discovery for us. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary that weekend and had noted that on our online RESY reservation and they made the night special with an anniversary card waiting for us on our table and two glasses of champagne/sparkling wine right after we were seated. We also discovered the excellent weekend brunch at 5 Church on Market Street. The brunch was filling and delicious, but the ambiance is special since this restaurant is inside an old former church whose beautiful stained-glass windows remain. We also did brunch at Eli’s Table on Meeting Street, another one of our favorites. We enjoyed live music and after-dinner drinks at the Charleston Grill and Thoroughbred’s in Charleston Place and the bar at the High Cotton restaurant.
Liberty Place by Hilton Club will be our new go-to place in Charleston – when we can book it. We booked right when the Club Reservations opened at about nine-months out. Reservations here go quick.
