:confused: We have a request in with II for the following resorts for early March of next year;

Sheraton Vistana Villages
Sheraton Vistana Resort
Marriott Grande Vista
Horizons by Marriott
Marriott Cypress

II keeps calling trying to convince us of a Westage or a Star Island. I am not so interested in a Westgate but I am a bit on the Star Island. Right now there is a 3 bedroom unit. We always travel with my Dad/Gramps....2 kids, 3 adults. 2 bedrooms are never a problem, but a 3 would be nice.

I am just wondering if I should hold out or grab the Star Island. We have always had great luck at getting the resorts we resquest and even Marriotts.

Can someone give me their thoughts on the Star? How big are the pools? Are they "really" updating the rooms, building more pools (taking out tennis courts....adding water parks)?

Thanks a ton! :D

Vistana Orlando & Vistana Villages Are Outstanding.

We've stayed (on RCI exchange) at Vistana Orlando & Vistana Villages. Both were outstanding.

We have not (yet) stayed at Star Island (& if it's not in RCI we may never stay there), but we did get a look at it on tour 1 time (just for the freebies).

From all we could tell, Star Island is extremely nice inside & out. Naturally, the timeshare sellers take care to show prospects the most attractive parts of the resort, but even so Star Island was very attractive when we saw it.

You're still a year out---feels too early to settle given Interval's deposit patterns.

That said, a 3BR for your travel party would be very nice.

I think I'd make the call based on what you would take if both were available to you. If you'd take Star Island, may as well take it now. If you'd take one of the others, I don't see the hurry.

We stayed at Star Island once two years ago. There may have been changes since then but overall I would rate it a step lower than Vistana or any of the Marriott's you have listed. Its a large resort with some buildings older than others. Some have no elevators, others are too conjested. You could be lucky to get a unit in a newer building but I am sure II would have no say in unit assignment. The same, of course, holds true in other resorts as well. Since early March is a busy time selection of your preferred location at Star Island may be impossible. If you have a good trader, at least for now stay with one of the resorts you have listed.

I have stayed at Star Island (last Jan.)and Cypress Harbor (a few Septembers ago)---and have written TUG reviews about both. I'm always the reviewer who has golf info included.

Star Island was pretty nice.

Cypress Harbor was NICE.

As previously suggested, I think you should wait for one of the resorts that are on your list - something will show up after a while.

You might want to consider adding Marriott's Imperial Palm Villas which is an all-three-bedroom resort on the Marriott World Center property. While this is a much smaller, older resort than the Marriott's that you've listed, all three of the timeshare phases there are being, or have been, refurbished.

This would be my pecking order for your listed resorts. All these resorts are outstanding for a family vacation.
Marriott's Grande Vista
Marriott's Cypress Harbour
Horizons by Marriott
Sheraton Vistana Villages
Sheraton Vistana Resort

Enjoy your week in the sunshine state.
