I'm taking the family to Harborside in June and decided to add on 5 nights in orlando. I was thinking of renting a timeshare for that week instead of a hotel. There are plenty of listings for rentals online for very resonsable prices. We have a party of 8 and will just be visiting Disney. What is the best resort to rent? My first thought was either vistana village or vistana resort (which seems to rent cheaper), but there's plenty of others. Any advice?

We were lucky enough to stay at Disney Boardwalk a couple times. The location is great - walking distance to EPCOT, short boat ride to MGM. It was really nice being able to walk back after the evening fireworks extravaganza at EPCOT and avoid the traffic mess. I'm not sure how easy it is to find a rental or how reasonable the prices would be, but you might want to see what you can find. I'm sure any of the off-premises resorts (like Vistana) would be much more reasonably priced.

I've heard great things about Vistana Villages.

My sisters and Dad stayed at HGVC International Drive and loved it. You might also check into an owner rental there.

If you want to be onsite, you might consider renting DVC points for a reservation, although you'd need a 2-bedroom and that can get expensive. You can also try "roughing" it in a hotel room :) and booking two rooms at the Swan. You'll be right on property, get your Heavenly Bed fix and have easy access to transportation. You might be able to get some good deals as a SVO owner or by just the general specials that the Swan offers.

How old are the kids? Ours are 5 & almost 8 and we LOVE being right onsite. We can split up and take buses here and there and meet up later, etc.

Happy planning!

Thanks for the advice. My kids are 4, 10, and 16. I know, they're really spread out....I've sent off a couple emails to inquire about timeshare rentals, but haven't had a whole lotta luck yet. I'd love to stay onsight, but I'm not sure its worth the extra money, considering this is a side trip after Harborside. I was kinda hoping to do it on the cheap. Swan is my fallback. I have plenty of points for a stay (although I've been hoarding them for a future trip to europe). I also have a spg50 coupon. Does anyone know if they'll take that?
