I want to exchange for my daughter and her family to Orlando and they have to go during the school schedule vacations. They haven't traveled much and are rather particular about their accommodations. I can see a 2 bedroom at Orange Lake West Village 0670. The reviews here and at RCI are generally good - but she seems to prefer the River Island. Since they are refurbishing West Village, are these units good ones? Can exchangers use the pools are the other complexes? Can you give me some up-to-date information about this resort?
Thank you in advance for your help.

It doesn't matter which village you are staying in with regards to using our amenities. All sections have access to all onsite amenities.

Right now, 0670 West Village means, the west village, the north village and the east village. Basically any unit other than the RI units. All units are refurbished with new soft goods and paint every 6 years. So your family will not be in a unit that has furniture and carpet older than 6 years.

Just returned

I just returned from a 2BR stay in the West Village. While the unit was clearly old, it was recently renovated. The unit was spotless and comfortable. One advantage over newer construction is that while I had neighbors on either side of me, I never heard them or knew they were there.

That being said, the resort was not for me due to its size, but I knew that going in. I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone.

Did you exchange?

Did you exchange into this resort? The reviews say that exchangers don't get the good units.
Do you mean that the resort wasn't good for you because it is a large complex? Can you use all the other areas of the complex, including the river island?

OLCC is a huge resort, with several sections. Anyone staying at the resort has access to all other sections and amenities.

Some exchangers have ended up in units they didn't like - what they might call the wrst units, but given the size of that size, and the number of people exchanging in, it's not surprising to find some who were unhappy. As the above poster stated, it may or may not be the right resort for all. At least now, with 4 resort codes, people will have a better sense of where they will be staying within the resort.

West Village is the oldest part of the resort, but the units are regularly updated. Even so, there are some architactural details that cannot be changed - these units will never have the large jacuzzi tubs, for instance, becaus the bathrooms don't have room for them. But most of these units are single story golf villas, where you won't hear your neighbors.

River Island is the other extreme - these are the newest units. They are in high-rise buldings I think 8 or 10 stories, with internal hallways, and elevators. Not quite like a hotel, since your unit is larger and more comfortable, but not much unlike an apartment complex, as you're sharing your hallway with several other families (and their loud kids). You will most likely have another family living above you, and you will probably hear them moving around in their unit, as well as the folks next door, unless they've installed really good soundproofing. I would expect it to be a very differnt experience from West Village.

It is a huge resort, but each village does have a different character. What do you mean about your daughter being particular? What would be her expectations? If she wants to be in the middle of everything, River Island is fine. If she wants to be able to get away from the crowds, West Village would probably be better.

We stayed in one of the single story golf units 3 or 4 years ago. It was just my husband and I, we weren't interested in the pools, etc. so this unit was perfect for us. The furniture was very dated and a little shabby at that time but it was very clean. We were a little late getting into the unit because they had shampooed the carpets. We didn't hear a sound from the next door duplex the whole time we were there.

I'm not sure how well I like a large resort so strung out as OL, but if we were to go back I would probably choose the same type of unit.

Just wondered cuz I thought maybe you might be my first girlfriend. ;)

I have friends south of Grand. I grew up in Beaverdale, moved out to Urbandale just north of the Ice Arena, and graduated from Urbandale. I played basketball in the Ice Arena (for real) and football the first year the UHS stadium was there.

No, we didn't have leather helmets. ;)

Oh yeah, OLCC. I have been familiar it with for almost 20 years. It was our first tour. We don't own there and have always had 3-bedroom units when we have exchanged. It's hard to go wrong with a 3-bedroom unit.

Anyone in any village can use any amenities. When we were in the North Village we went to the East Village poolplex because we like that hot tub, which there is a shortage of relative to the number of guests. I've met a lot of interesting people in the East Village hot tub.

You seem as up-to-snuff as anyone. Do you have any idea how many units there are now, in what areas, and what the total occupancy is?
