We were recently approached by Options Travel Group about helping us get out of our timeshare ownership and signing up for their Premier Club membership to get travel discounts of all types. Can anyone give us information about their experience with this company? Thanks.
In 2021, my elderly dad was looking to exit his timeshare ownership because he was no longer able to travel and wanted to be released from the annual maintenance fee. He met at a local Holiday Inn with
Options Travel Group, who promised him a way out. (He couldn’t remember how this meeting came about; I suspect it was spam email, an online ad, or similar.) He left this meeting with a two-year membership in Club365, a timeshare scheme from RCI/World Travel Holdings. (RCI markets Club365 to its affiliates in the travel industry as “a travel membership program to convert non-buyers into buyers” of vacation club memberships.)
The cost? $7,495, which was charged to a Barclays Bank RCI Elite Rewards World Mastercard that Options Travel had issued to my dad that day. They also gave him a separate transfer agreement stating that my parents would have to send an additional $1,300 for
Vacation Warehouse LLC to process the transfer of their timeshare out of their name.
This is where I got involved and stopped my dad from sending more money. I found dozens of complaints against Options Travel Group of Springfield, Missouri, and Spring, Texas, and its affiliated companies (Vacation Warehouse,
Travel Remedies,
Leisure Getaways,
Legacy Adventures) from people who stated that they sought to exit a timeshare but were duped into buying another one, that they couldn’t reach the company, and/or that the company did not honor its promise of a future transfer of the timeshare ownership they were seeking to exit.
I disputed the $7,495 credit card charge, but the bank denied it because in their view it was a valid purchase. After getting hit with late fees, interest, and damage to his credit score, my dad ultimately paid it.
There's a happy ending: I learned of a site called
Responsible Exit (
https://responsibleexit.com), a travel industry resource that helps people exit timeshares safely. Through this site, I was connected to the deed back department at Bluegreen Vacations. Their representative was extremely pleasant, patient, and professional. With a minimal amount of paperwork, Bluegreen released my dad from his timeshare ownership and annual fee.
