I am trying to put together a family trip to Maui for July 2025
I am considering purchasing a WKORV Ocean view unit
The seller can make a July 13 reservation for me as part of the purchase
I know it is late but reservations are still restricted to home resort usage
Any thoughts as to the likely view quality that a reservation made this week would have?

Unfortunately, many OV units at WKORV have views that are just not that good (and have no direct view of the ocean -- low floors, parking lot in foreground, vegetation had grown in, etc.). We owned OV at WKORV years back and sold it for that reason. I think it is likely you would get one of those units, especially in July.

But the bright side is that if you're contemplating buying because you want to travel to WKORV in future years, and you'll be able to plan those trips further in advance – ideally so that you can make reservations 12 months ahead – you will be perfectly happy with the views you get in those subsequent years.

I have owned OV at WKORV since the property was built, and I've never had a room I was unhappy with in close to 20 years of stays there. These days I do usually make them 12 months ahead, but I've had 8 month ahead reservations that were also fine. I don't think I've ever been lower than floor 4, even with 8 month reservations.

OV rooms at WKORV are not really a straight-out view to the ocean, it's often "look over and past the pool" or "turn your head a little to the left" but they are still very definitely ocean view. I haven't even minded too much the couple of times we've been on the parking lot side of building 4... it would probably be a drag if you were on a lower floor, but from the higher floors, you are looking OVER the parking lot at the ocean, not AT the parking lot. I think that side feels less "busy" and I don't mind it at all.

How much time do you plan to spend gazing out at the scenery? Some people spend a lot of time doing that, while others are busy with activities or at the pool or beach. I appreciate the nice view but it doesn't make or break my trip (but some people feel differently.)

View is important to both my wife and I but this trip is for us and three of our children's families
I expect that especially for those with younger children view will be less important

I think when referring to B4 parking lot view, people are generally talking about the other side of that building, which faces towards the highway. No water in that direction.

The lowest rooms are straight on parking lot view.

The higher rooms look over the parking lot and highway and see the hills on the other side.

The OV rooms, like you mention, are on the water side of the building in that one corner overlooking the park next door (and its parking lot)

We have gotten great views at 8 mos on an Exchange numerous years so you should be fine.

Yes, the question was about “ocean view” rooms. The rooms with the unmistakable parking lot view are Island View.

I think all the Ocean View rooms are fine so long as they are not on the lowest couple of floors. Not sure about third floor, there may be some trees tall enough to block some views from a few third floor rooms.

The BBQ’s at the South Property have an awesome view, so you could always spend some more time there if not thrilled with your room views. In future years, booking one year out should assure a good view.
