So we went to a presentation today. They were short of sales ppl and asked if we had any questions …I replied no but what is the current cost of points. I was told $17.4 .

We asked if they had any special as they were going to let us go due to staffing.
I was told that if we bought 2000. Points we could enroll all of are external weeks which we have several of. I told him we might be interested in that offer. We went up to his office who told us he was the manager.
He came back several minutes later to inform us this offer ended 12/24 and could no longer offer the Dec bonus offer. The day we came was 12/28… we said fine and then left.

I am really questioning if this offer really exsisted? 🤔🤷‍♀️

If you had that offer please let us know as I doubt that offer was offered.

Thanks

Trying to learn...were you really considering giving up deeded weeks or am I misunderstanding that part?

Which resort was this (your link doesn’t work for me)?

In the Vistana days that would have allowed you to bring 5-6 weeks into the system. Maybe MVC is testing out some pricing models to see what works given sales are dropping?

To clarify …not giving up deeded weeks but adding points to enroll external Marriott units we picked up after 2010

Yes, these offers exist. Normally, for 2000 points I don’t know they’d allow more than 1 week enrollment. But MF and upfront cost of Trust point are so expensive and that maybe that are more generous with enrollment.

You can usually do a lot better by buying a developer deeded (or rather, RTU) week in Aruba or Spain. Those developer weeks can convert to points annually and, depending on your spend, you can enroll resale weeks as part of the transaction. The cost per point and MF per point will usually look much better than buying Trust points.

I own 3 resale weeks. I've been offered at various times "deals" to enroll those resale weeks. It has always been fairly consistent: 1) buy 2500 points to enroll one resale week; 2) buy 4000 points to enroll 2-5 resale weeks; or 3) buy 6000 (it may have been 6500) points to enroll 6 or more resale weeks. I've received better offers when traveling outside the USA. In Spain, if I spent at least 16K euro, I could enroll 2 resales. In St Kitts, it was buy a deeded week for at least $25k and enroll 2 resale weeks.

Some folks in various FB groups have indicated in the past that they were able to negotiate the enrollment of a resale week or two by buying only 2000 points. I've never personally received that offer and do not know if it is accurate. If you are serious about buying points so that you can enroll resale weeks, you might have better communication by contacting a company sales manager directly and not bother going through a sales person at a domestic resort.

Actually my experience is the opposite. Corporate sales gave me a bad and inflexible offer for enrollment. The rep at Aruba was able to do much better. Although I haven’t closed a sale at Son Antem, my conversations with the rep there have been great also.

Be careful spending a bunch of money to enroll deeded weeks so they can be exchanged for points. The resulting points are only as good as the reservations you can get by spending them. The points system is stressed by the lack of available "better" reservations.

And according to Marriott (in their notice in relation to the GRC issue), they can cut-off your ability to exchange for points, despite you having paid tens of thousands for the "right" to do so.

I guess there are all sorts of changes which MVC could make according to their Ts & Cs which might reduce options for owners, although this one is just as beneficial to them as it is to owners by expanding the potentially available points inventory so no real benefit for them in cutting it off.

Well, think of the likely reactions of point holders from whatever source as it would not be pretty. I suspect we would just revert back to week only uses and kiss all point transactions goodbye. MVC would lose access to any reservations from deposits of our owned weeks and MVC would suffer. They are smarter than that and will play nice.

From what I've seen I don't believe there has been any possibility of enrolling multiple MVC weeks for a 2000 points purchase. The program terminated much earlier than 12/24. Either they were messing with you or mistaken would be my take. More likely the latter. This year MVC was particularly inflexible with the enrollment options routinely denying flexibility they would have easily allowed only a couple of years ago.
And according to Marriott (in their notice in relation to the GRC issue), they can cut-off your ability to exchange for points, despite you having paid tens of thousands for the "right" to do so.
While it would be a difficult program to change, they could close down the entire program if they so chose. And any resort that departs the system for whatever reason would be out.

Hello, We were at Cypress Harbor last week and had a similar but different conversation at our sales meeting (on 12/28). We own an EOY Even deeded week at MOC (Maui). I was interested in converting our deeded week to points but were told that would require a $44K investment. The rep did offer us the ability to purchase 1000 points for $16K which would allow us points usage of $1K every year and (I believe) the abilty to convert our EOY week to 3100 points eoy to use. We passed on making the additional investment and then the Marketing person came in.

The Marketing person offered us an Encore package of $1100 for 4 night stay in the network and told us that an additional benefit of purchase the Encore was that she was able to move us back into the points program at no further cost. We remain a deeded owner, pay the MOC maintenance fees, however we can convert our EOY week to 3100 points to use in our Even years. While I was hoping to escape the higher MOC maintenance fees, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to convert our week and have the option to participate in the Points Program.

I wonder if anyone else has come across this offering and whether you felt it to be a great offer? Would appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you,
LAR

I’m assuming you purchased your MOC week pre June 2010. If so, and also assuming you reside in the US, you could have enrolled that week in Abound, for FREE, without the Encore purchase…. simply by watching a video.

Your week is entitled to FREE enrollment, and the sales guy should have told you that.....

Let Marriott know that you want to enroll your week and take advantage of your FREE enrollment.

Shame on them for not letting you know this!

This was the link to the webinar which had previously worked, Owner Services should be able to give you a current working link.View attachment 86531
Not sure if it takes you to the same video....but the most recent one can be found by logging into the MVC site, go to Resources-Helpful Tools-Ownership Webinar, then scroll to the very last webinar shown. The fine print above the video says this....
Owners who reside in the U.S. whose weeks were purchased by June 20, 2010, will be offered free enrollment in the Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Exchange Program after viewing this entire presentation.

Do not purchase any Club Points. Enroll your week for free and others have stated. You will pay Club Dues, but as a member of the Abound program, you can rent Club Points from other owners should you desire to book something other than going to your owned week; and if you elect Club Points in lieu of occupancy in your owned week, you can combine rented points with elected points to use for reservations. Note that by renting points, your owner level won't change. That is based upon what you own. Enrollment is a good thing. Elected points work the same as owned points, with the exception that owned points can be used to exchange into BonVoy points, but that is a horrible exchange and not worth it. Do not buy 1000 points; they are not needed and a waste of money.

This is why people fairly call Marriott sales dirty and fraudulent. Total scumbags to do this.

Thanks for all the feedback. I confess that I'm really surprised that the marketing rep did not tell me that I could join the Aboudn program and convert my deeded week to points without having to purchase the encore package. That being said, I dont mind crafting a nice 4 night trip according to locations offered up for a stay at a cost of $1195, but now I'm wondering if I could have crafted a better trip for $1195 if I used that to rent points from someone.
How would it work if I purchased something like 2000 points on the resale market? What might that cost me for the points as well as the annual maintenance and can I just lump that in with my elected points and have one pool of points to work with?
Thanks again!

Is this the encore package where you might have to pay an additional $300 for peak periods? I was offered that one a few weeks ago.

Just reading further on the forum and saw someone reference an 'amnesty program'. Is that what I'm taking advantage of and does it expire? My Mother in law needs to do this but thought she might need to go to a presentation and purchase the Encore.. Thanks!
