I just had a trade come through into Oceana Palms for July 1-8, 2022. I have a few questions before deciding to keep it or not.

Heat. How bad will it be? We were just in Bal Harbour mid June and it was very tolerable.
Crowds. Will it be mostly families like Ocean Pointe with a lot of very young kids?
View. We have a TBOV ocean view unit. Does this put me in the tower furthest from the beach?

Thanks in advance. :hi:

I just booked a points reservation for Ocean Pointe for November and did quite a bit of research/ googling before booking so I’ll share what I know-
Average temp in July is 90 during the day and mid 70’s at night. It’s only 10 degrees less in November.
Hard to predict who else will be at the resort with you- Ocean Pointe would probably be first pick for families with younger kids if they have a choice but there are activities for kids at Oceana too and with school out for summer I’m sure it will be busy and there will be kids.
View is not guaranteed with an II trade, the resort will put you wherever their own protocol indicates. Hopefully someone else can share their experience with II placement at Oceana.
There are several threads on these boards about the 2 Palm Beach resorts that I found really helpful.
Hope that helps a bit.

We had a similar trade last year the week before July 1st. Now granted, this is right after they opened back up after COVID shutdowns so the place was way less crowded than normal. I would imaging close to capacity and a decent amount of kids. The resort is a MUCH smaller footprint the Ocean Pointe so it could "feel" a little more crowded even if it isn't. Pools are in the shade in the afternoons because of the high-rise towers.

We had perfect weather - yes, it's hot (89-92 and humid). It's South Florida in the summer. It thunderstormed like 2-3 afternoons. We were also impacted by one of those "dry hurricane" dust storms that cross the Atlantic so that made it a little hazy, but probably kept the rain down, too.

We had a II trade in Ocean View. That's basically every unit that doesn't front the beach in the Sunrise building, plus the whole Sunset building. We just asked for north facing and got like 8th floor in Sunset which was fine by us. If we go again I'd ask for north-facing Sunrise building, as you would overlook the neighboring property's pool and gardens vs. the parking lot.

They've recently remodeled the units - if you search here @dioxide45 did a video tour on his Youtube channel/page.

I own at OP and go every year in July or August. It's hot and humid but there's quite a breeze along the coast and that makes it enjoyable (for me anyway). The holiday week will be busy, likely 95% plus capacity. From my experience there is a good number of families with children but as compared to Ocean Pointe, there is more adult travelers at Oceana.

Only an ocean front unit guarantees the beach fronting building. It is likely an exchange will put you in the second tower but not necessarily especially if you make your pre-arrival request.

I see the OP is from Houston. I’ve been to Houston in July/Aug, and humidity at Oceana Palms in early July is likely to seem dry compared to what you are used to in Houston. As mentioned, the coastal breeze will seem refreshing.

It will be hot. The sun will be very strong, but hey, it's the beach in July. I stayed on the 20th floor in the second building and had a crazy good view to the north up the beach and the intercoastal waterway the other direction. I was in a corner unit so I could see about 180 degrees from east to west. My only other comment is that it really isn't near much. There's a few restaurants and a large surf shop about a 10-15 minutes walk south and that's about it. You get free beach chairs which is a nice perk. As said before, the footprint is small and it gets crowded in the pool area and restaurant/bar.

Thanks for the replies. There will 4 adults, and I was hoping to not have too many small children, which is why I asked. We have been to Ocean Pointe down the road, and it is full of kids (some being mine over the years). My request included both Crystal Shores and Oceana Palms with a wide variety of dates. Was hoping for CS actually, but I was using a studio unit as trade bait, so I'm thinking that might be an issue. This trade came through first night.

Crystal Shores is perhap one of the hardest II trades in the system. Certainly not doable with a studio as trade bait. It often requires full 2BR units in prime seasons. Getting a 2BR Oceana Palms with a studio is great.

What Studio were you trading with? I think that's a GREAT trade.

I think the key is vacationing when school is in session rather than a particular resort.
I agree CS is a tough trade on II- that and Maui are the only ones I never matched. I booked with books a few years ago though and it was so worth it!.

thought i would just add my 2 cents about using a studio to trade.. i can see a 3 Bedroom Unit at Frenchmans Cove in October 2021 using my Harbor Lake Studio

Enjoy Oceana Palms. You received a good trade.

Expect hot and humid, but good beach and pool weather (minus late afternoon storms in summer). It is hurricane season also.

Oceana Palms is more upscale (great for adults), but is on a smaller footprint. Just keep that in mind. Some stores/restaurants in walking distance, but not tons. Plenty in driving distance.

So I let the trade go and asked II to take Oceana Palms of the search list. Guess what? I've received same trade again. :ponder: Come to find out II had not removed it, but they have now done so. I've reinstated OP with more specific dates outside of school summer break. Fingers crossed.

It's a great resort but on the scale of Hot, Dang Hot and Hot as H, it'll likely be the latter. When we were at OP that week a couple of years ago it was busy but not overly crowded either at the resort or for restaurants.

Hottest I have ever been was the year we went to Hilton Head for July 4th. It was 100 degrees and 90%+ humidity every day for a week!

I think your chances are pretty good..we were at Oceana Palms this past May and really enjoyed the resort and the surrounding area..lots of good restaurants within a 15 minute drive...good luck

It is possible though, this was a great time of year to go for me. Off-season is my time! Traded 1BR Feb DSV2 for 2BR Crystal Shores Oct/Nov. I would think it would be very tough with studio, in summer...

We own at Ocean Pointe down the road from Oceana Palms. We go every year in July. We have never found it too hot on the beach and the water is beautiful. Perfect temperature for swimming.

I am at Ocean Pointe now. Love the weather on the beach, feels much cooler than weather in Dallas (home). At the pool you feel the heat more. I have stayed at Oceana Palms and Ocean Pointe both in July . You will get afternoon showers. More activities here at Ocean Pointe but Oceana Palms is more for adults and units are nicer. However the 2nd bedroom at Oceana Palms has 2 full size beds which is not ideal for couples. At Ocean Pointe both bedrooms have king size beds. Since traveling with our adult children and their spouses that is something to consider. Lots of children here but doesn't seem too terribly crowded even though I was told the resort is nearly 100% booked.

I believe the comment about the beds is not correct. Oceana has two queen beds in the second bedroom which might be more preferable for families with more kids.

I have lived in both Houston and Palm Beach County. Houston is brutal compared to WPB.
