Can anyone give me some advice on what to do while Iam in Daytona? I am know there is alot out there but what was worth it and what wasn't? Also my husband and I are big Seafood people. Any suggestions on where to eat (seafood or otherwise) that is good food but not crazy prices?

Billy's Tavern! It is on the road out to the north bridge. DH and his bridge partners ate there many times while in Daytona. Something for everyone he said.

Daytona Dining

I am a seafood lover myself. If you are willing to drive a few minutes head down to New Smyrna and try Blackbeards(on route 1 just before New Smyrna) as well as Norwoods (just across the bridge into New Smyrna Beach). Also Inlet Harbor has decent food along with nice views of the intercoastal waterway. All the above have very good early bird menus. Also Marios Italian restarunt is very good when you are looking to mix things up a little and take a break from seafood.

Aunt Catfish

We like Aunt Catfish. It is located on Route 1, south of Daytona proper.

Nancy

thanks

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

What about things to do - anything that is a must see?

The Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse. This is the tallest lighthouse in Florida, I think admisson is $5, and it is rated the number one attraction in Daytona.

Daytona Flea Market is huge and worth at least a half a day. It is open Fri, Sat and Sun. This was rated a top 5 flea market in the country.

The Kennedy Space Center is a whole day and worth it. There are rides, exhibits, I-max movies, rockets, shuttles, and you actually get to see the launch pads and things like the space station peices being built. Depending on the date of your visit, you might see the shuttle aunch, or a rocket launch or at least see them sitting on the launch pad. It is a great day for adults and kids and about an hour from Daytona.

Drive about an hour north and spend at least a whole day in St Augustine. There are lots of museums, old homes, beautiful churches, walking areas with lots of shopping and restaurants (this area reminds me of a nicer, safer, cleaner French Quarter). Here are a couple of highlights, but there is much more to see and do:
Castillo De San Marcos is a Spanish fort built in the 1600's which is a national park now. http://www.nps.gov/casa/
take the trolley tour and get on and off all day. http://www.trustedtours.com/store/Old-Town-Trolley-St-Augustine-C208.aspx
Tour Flagler college. http://www.flagler.edu/

The boardwalk on the beach and the restaurants Bubba Gumps etc), movie theatres, and shopping by the Wyndham Ocean walk. Not a must do but worth a 20 minute stroll if you are driving by. Across the street from the Wyndham is a waterpark (I have never been ther personally).

Also you are a little over an hour from Orlando with Disney, Sea World, Universal Studios etc. After all of these things I have listed you won't have much time to spend on the beach. Just stay 2 weeks or make plans to come back next year. :whoopie:

I agree that the Flea market is worth going to!!

As far as St. Augustine, we're sorry we never got up that way.

Hey, maybe we'll just have to go back someday.......

Pat

St. Augustine is very nice if you like a quieter more laid back atmosphere with a touch of Spanish tradition. Less kid oriented than Orlando or Daytona Beach. Has some great restaurants there.

Thank you

Thank you all so much. I think our week will be very full based on all your suggestions.:cheer:
