Is it safe to assume that Ocean Side is the same as Ocean View in other resorts. Also, which is the best building and/ or floor to stay when at Ocean Pointe?

That is how I would classify it. As with other resorts, just because you have ocean view doesn't mean you can see the ocean very well. This is also the case at Ocean Pointe. Low floors will have a very obscured view of the ocean due to the grown vegetation surrounding the buildings. In fact the same is true for Ocean Front units.

The only thing that really matters to us at Ocean Pointe when we visit is Kingfish not no Kingfish. Kingfish is a love hate kind of thing. Some people love this building that is separated from the rest of the resort, others hate it. We have honestly never stayed in it, but are pretty sure we would be on the hate side of things.

I looked on the resort map, but could not figure out what might be between the main grounds and Kingfish?
Other then distance are the amenities comparable between Kingfish and the rest of the resort? Besides higher floor which building should I look for, or at least try to avoid?

Kingfish has it's own pool (the only zero entry pool at the resort) and it's own fitness center. There is also a pool bar there. So it has it's own set of amenities. The Kingfish building is separated from the main section by a large pink condo complex. They don't show that building on the map, check it out on Google Maps.

Building location at Ocean Pointe is always a personal preference sort of things. Here are my opinions:

With children, I'd prefer Sailfish or Dolphin. They're closer to the family pools, acitivites center, beach access (shorter walk at least), Pizza Hut and Marketplace.

Without children but wanting to be closer to the action, either Cobia or Pompano. Pompano has units facing south towards the pink building (that's what's between the main complex and Kingfish) and some don't care for that view. While these two are still in the main complex, they're closer to the pool that hosts an adult swim time and the fitness center. Beach access is close but, the walk way over the dunes is just a little longer walk.

For more of a secluded feel we like Kingfish. In fact, Kingfish has become our prefered location. Fewer families want to be this far away from the main complex and the pool is quiter. It has it's own fitness center, a zero entry pool, it's own bar, hot tub (smaller than the main complexes hot tubs), quite sitting area's and gas grills. I enjoy my morning walks up the beach to the main complex for my morning cup of Starbucks.

There is a big pink condo building. At one time, Marriott wanted to buy that land but, all the owners couldn't agree to sell it. So Marriott just built around it. It is a well maintained but plain buildings. We've owned and stayed at Ocean Pointe since 2001 (except for one year) and have never minded the pink building.

My wife felt this way as well. In fact, it was several years before I bit the bullet and asked to be placed in Kingfish. Now, it's the only place we want to be.

These past few years I've been booking and trying resorts I never thought we'd like. I've found out that more often than not, my unofficial (hadn't actually tried it) opinions were mostly wrong. Kingfish building at Ocean Pointe, Harbor Town on HHI, Custom House with units that have no kitchen and Mountain Valley Lodge in Breckenridge, CO have all be very pleasant surprises for us. In fact, all have become favorites of ours when we initially felt we'd probably not enjoy ourselves all that much.

It's encouraged us to try other locations, resorts and different unit locations we've always thought we might not care for. We've found many gems turning in getting rid of what we think of as preferences.

Of course, sometimes we try something new and find out we don't like it but, at least we know for certain. ;)

As mentioned, ocean side doesn't equate to ocean view. This was the view from our first floor Dolphin building ocean side unit in 2001. In the second of these pics I'm standing inside looking out the window.

And the pink building between Pompano and Kingfish as viewed from our ocean front unit in Pompano. You can see Kingfish building in the distance.

I don't have a map to post but, the northern most building is Sailfish followed by Dolphin, Cobia and Pompano on the main complex. The fifth and southermost building is Kingfish. Kingfish is seperated from the main complex by a condo building that Marriott was unable to purchase.

If you prefer to be around the majority of the action and amenities, then the main complex building are probably where you'd want to be. Sailfish and Dolphin are closest to the two pools used most frequently by families, are close to the Tiki Bar, Market, Activities Center, Starbucks and Pizza Hut Express and the reception desk.

The childrens play area is between Dolphin and Cobia.

There is a large pool and hot tub between Cobia and Pompano that has a morning adult only swim time. This has also been the location of the water arobics class.

Gas grill are closest to Sailfish and Pompano.

The fitness center is located in the Pompano building.

The Tiki Bar often has live entertainment which can go on until 10:00 PM and can be bothersome if you prefer a little quite time at night or just prefer to hear the sound of the ocean vs a poolside performer or Kareoke.

Kingfish is more secluded and offers it's own bar called High Tides but, this bar has rather limited hours. It also has it's own pool, which is the only zero entry pool in the complex. Kingfish has it's own smaller fitness center.

Most of the Kingfish units are considered ocean front. The ocean side units are on the north side of the building and face the pink condo building that sits between Kingfish and the main complex.

I know that Sailfish building has gone through a more extensive refurishment last year and Kingfish has had a soft refurbishment with a new, fresh look.

I'll be at Ocean Pointe this coming 4th of July week and can't wait. Does anyone have a picture and/or description of the new splash park the resort installed? At least, I think this resort installed a splash park where one of the playgrounds were?

Is there a marina we can walk to from the resort that has water taxis? I thought I read the water taxi was discontinued but I'm even more sure I have seen recent posts from trip advisor talking about some kind of water taxi at the marina.

Also, where is the best place to view fireworks around Ocean Pointe? Is it on the beach in front of the resort? Is there a park people go to? Just currious. I'm sure we will see lots of amature firework displays but what do most people do for 4th of July at Ocean Pointe? Thanks.
