We're just about to confirm a 2 bedroom condo, direct rental from an owner, and wonder if anyone has stayed at this resort or has information about the area. We've never been to Key Largo and would appreciate information about places in the area, fishing, dining, etc. We check in January 16.

My $0.02 worth...

We're just about to confirm a 2 bedroom condo, direct rental from an owner, and wonder if anyone has stayed at this resort or has information about the area. We've never been to Key Largo and would appreciate information about places in the area, fishing, dining, etc. We check in January 16.

Unless I'm mistaken, this is a relatively new facility (unlike most of the few timeshare facilities in Key Largo, which tend heavily toward "old and tired"). I believe the place which you mention initially started out with a different name, then changed hands (and project name) when the original developers faltered financially.
I don't know anything more about the place.

Key Largo itself is a bit of a "snooze", in my opinion, but there are a few good restaurants (e.g., The Fish House {"Encore" side}, Snappers, Buzzard's Roost). John Pennekamp State Park has some walking trails and a very small "beach" (...coral, not sand). There are state sub-contracted boat trips (...but not fishing trips) out of Pennekamp Park, as well as snorkel trips out to the reef. A kayak place on U.S. 1 in KL rents kayaks and also runs guided half day trips, if that activity "floats your boat". Not much else of interest (to me, anyhow) in Key Largo, whose best feature, in my view, is that it's only 100 miles from there to Key West. ;)

I owned a winter week at a timeshare facility in Key Largo for several years --- sold it just last year, in fact. While I always enjoyed those annual Keys trips immensely, each year the most memorable fun always occurred outside of Key Largo, and Key Largo ultimately held no further appeal to me at all (beyond those aforementioned restaurants, all of which were consistently very good).
In the end of course, it's always "different strokes for different folks"...

If you've never been there, you may be disappointed, unless you are the kind of person who can seek out a really good time no matter where you end up. The Keys are filled with trailer parks, but if you end up at the right place in the right frame of mind - you will understand what all the fuss is about. It can be a great time, or you may wonder what you are doing there. It's a strange and very unusual place. Let us know what you think! If you're looking for high end artsy fartsy, you will be disappointed. Are you open minded?

Thanks for the input. We enjoy relaxing by the pool, beaching it, doing some fishing, dining out, etc. Nightlife is not on our list of "to dos" for vacation. So we may just find Key Largo a good spot for us. We definitely plan to drive the 92 miles down to Key West just to see what all the hoopla is about. We may also drive back to South Beach just to look around. But if we can do a little fishing and catch some rays by the pool, we'll be happy with this condo. The price was good and we just sent the rental agreement off today. I'll write a review once we return. :)
