Going to Myrtle Beach next month and trying to decide on OB or TOTG. I have a 3 bedroom deluxe ocean front lower level for 101,500 pts at OB and a 2 bedroom deluxe ocean front at TOTG for 52,500 pts. Both reservations are for seven days and each have been upgraded. I am not familiar with the area thus i'm soliciting opinions, especially from those who have stayed in both, as to which is the better deal. I will be cancelling one of the reservations once a decision is made.

OB almost always costs more points that the other MB resorts.
It is newer, more pools and amenities.
But TOTG has a nice pool, easier access to the beach. I would guess it is 1/4 the size of OB.
The resorts are only 2 miles apart.
OB is very close to Main Street which has many local restaurants and bars and breakfast places.
TOTG is near some of that in Cherry Grove but there is much less going on.
If you can get a look at the room layout at TOTG, that might help you decide.
I have stayed in nice, bright rooms there, and I have also stayed in weird cut up designs. It was converted to Wyndham from a failed condo project. They seemed to do an awful job of creating the rooms when they did the redesign. We had a windowless living room once. The ocean front balcony was off the bedroom.
You won't go too wrong with either place.

Take a look at the location for TOTG and compare the amenities each resort offers. Also take a look at the layout of the two bedroom units at TOTG. I seem to remember reading that people said they are a little odd, small or something they didn't care for. If all you want is a quiet beach vacation, you might be fine with TOTG. Since you booked at 3 BR at OB I'm guessing you are going with kids or other people. OB, both the resort and the area will have a lot more to offer.

Give Hoskins Restaurant a try for their daily lunch specials. And enjoy a piece of their amazing peanut butter pie for us. We used to go for dinner once in a while too. We split their large seafood platter and ordered an extra baked potato or side of coleslaw.

Choice of Baked Potato or French Fries, One Trip Salad Bar, and Hushpuppies.
Sweet Potato Fries $.75 extra | Broiling $1.00 extra.

  • seafood platter

shrimp, flounder, scallops, oysters, and crab cake

    large $20.95

    small $18.95

The units at Towers are generally a little smaller than OB. Towers was not built by Wyndham. Towers is generally quieter because the floors are smaller and there is no open area between the floors like at OB. You can usually get to your car quicker at Towers since the resort is smaller unless you get lucky and find an underground spot at OB. Both of them have parking decks across the road from the resort. Just be sure to get an ocean front room if that is what you want.

This time of year will likely be too cold to enjoy outdoor pools .. OB has a nice indoor pool .. I think Towers on the Grove has an indoor as well but it was not memorable. We had two different two bedroom ocean front rooms at Towers on the Grove and both of them were strange .. long and skinny with only the living room having the balcony overlooking the ocean while the kitchen, dining, and bedrooms were strung together behind that. OB is nice and big and beautiful .. it would give you a much better 'first impression' of the resort and the area. I second the idea that the main street a 5 minute walk from OB is nice as well .. lots of restaurants and shops. During summers, main street can be blocked off for festival concerts which adds to the party atmosphere. Yet OB being 5 minute walk away is not bothered by the sound.

And if you like to dance at all, you just have to go to Fat Harold's (Main Street).

North Myrtle Beach - the shag dancing capital of the world (who knew)?

We have only staying at Ocean Boulevard. I walked around TOTG. Ocean Boulevard seemed like a better choice for us. I was impressed by how the buildings, on the ocean side of the street (towers 1, 2, and 3) are angled in a way you can pretty much get some view of the ocean. Of course ocean front is ideal, but ocean view is better than nothing. And if we are going to the beach, we are going to see the ocean (or my hubby won't go).
