I am looking for some dining suggestions. We are staying in Kill Devil Hills and this is our first trip to OBX. We have 2 small children 2 and 4 and would prefer places that are casual. I would also love a recommendation for a Sunday (Mother's Day) brunch.

Steve,

Oh my, lucky you... The Kill Devils road side stand on Croatan Hwy has the best frozen yogurt you have tasted. Their hot dogs and hamburgers ain't bad either. We go there every day. For Mothers Day, Tail of the Whale is a very nice restaurant down toward the south end of Nags Head or, The Black Pelican in Kitty Hawk is quite good too. Pizzazz pizza is good and fast, not great. We have not found any good Mexican food at the Outer Banks. There is a restaurant on one of the piers (can't remember the name) and the food was very good. After your meal you can go out on the pier for free.

Please note that the Wright Brothers Memorial is in Kill Devil Hills **NOT** Kitty Hawk. The flight was in Kill Devil Hills. The hotel and telegraph office was in Kitty Hawk. The folks in Kill Devil Hills are still pissed that Kitty Hawk gets all the glory.

Also from a friend who goes to OBX at least twice a year.

Restaurant's

Tale of the Whale- (dinner) on the left, just before the Manteo bridge

Hurricane Moe's -(lunch, dinner) on the right over Manteo bridge in Pirate's Cove Marina

Carolina Seafood (dinner) beach road between mp 5- 7 all you can eat buffet only

Mako Mike's (dinner) in Kill Devil Hills, on the right if you are going south, good food, cool looking inside.

New York Style Pizza (lunch, dinner) good for lunch or dinner on your left in Kill Devil Hills. yellow building really good food.

Keeper's Galley - (breakfast) great breakfast, going south it's on your left in Kitty Hawk. Buffet and menu

Dunes Restaurant - (breakfast) same people own keeper's galley, going south it's on your left in Nags Head, letters that spell restaurant on top of building.

put-put

Blackbeard's - next to Dairy Queen in Nags Head, more like behind it.

Souvenir's

Ben Franklin has cool stuff, at a cheap cost.

Walking around the town of Manteo and going to Oregon inlet to drive on the beach are my favorite things, if you go to Manteo go to poor Richards sub shop on the waterfront. they are from Baltimore, hope this helps.

Kill Devil Grill:

Discovered on our last trip, had to go back for a second meal, crab cakes were outstanding.

Sam n Omie's in Nags Head - usually a favorite BUT last trip we had one of our worst meals ever there. Avoid the clam strips... otherwise dinners were really good, and great for breakfast.

Mother's Day brunch possibility: Colington Cafe - a bit pricier but good food and very good atmosphere:

or, Basnight's Lone Cedar Cafe in Nags Head:

Beautiful garden & setting!

Lauri,

I forgot about Collington Cafe. One of our favorite places. Thanks for mentioning it.

P.S. OBX crab cakes are not the same as Maryland crab cakes. If you have become spoiled by MD crab cakes, welcome to the club.

Thanks Laurie. I did make tentative reservations at Pamlico Jacks in Nags Head for Mother's Day brunch.
