November is low season on Maui and in years' past, they've offer great deals in the fall ($500-600 round-trip.) If prices are significantly higher, I'd wait a few months to see if prices come down. Booking 6 months + out usually means you'll pay the top price on airfare. (I'd book a car rental now, though, because you can always cancel it if the prices go down.)
The risk, of course, is that fuel prices will continue to soar and the prices will remain high. Alas, I'm not a soothsayer so I cannot predict that one.
If prices do remain high, you might need to get creative. You always have the option of flying to Las Vegas as cheaply as you can and then booking a Hawaiian Air flight from there, etc. Or flying out of Newark, West Chester, etc.
If you haven't already signed up for e-mail alerts at places such as Farecompare.com, I'd do so immediately. You will be e-mailed if prices drop or rise.
