Finally, the weather pattern has broken and, after 13 days here, we were able to head to the beach and spent the afternoon at Shipwrecks.

Dropped by Koloa Fish Market to pick up something for dinner. You can’t go into the store too look at what they have. They tell you what they have and they will bring it over to the order window to show you. We opted to head over to Big Save to see what they had and bought some Ono. We were disappointed in the Kauai Fish Market last year too. Once they moved to their new digs they really became more of a take-out place rather than a fish market, IMHO, they lost their personality, if you will. They lost three weeks of business from us. Tomorrow we will be heading to Costco to re-supply and then will head to Fish Express to stock up.

A little excitement at The Point at Po’ipu: a couple was arrested and taken away for quarantine violation. If anyone thinks Kaua’i isn’t serious about this COVID thing, think again! You need to have your ducks in line when you get here. A couple arrived on American last week that didn’t understand the protocol and were put back on the airplane and flown back to the mainland. This was not a rumor, we know the gate agent that met the inbound flight.

Dropped over to the Po’ipu Shopping Village and it is pretty well empty. A lot of the shops are empty, but the Pietro’s Pizza is open from 4-8 PM, the Geloto place is open, Whaler’s is open as is Starbucks. There are some clothing stores open, but that is about it, The Thai place is temporarily closed.

There are only two places to eat in Koloa Town: La Spezia and the Wine Store. We are headed to the former tomorrow night for dinner with friends. The Wine Store expanded into the Flower Shop and the Deli next door and serves small plates (tapas) and is adding an entree each night. We peeked in a couple of days ago to check it out and they have done a nice job re-doing the place. They do have a small lanai that is available for dinner. We definitely will be checking it out.

Because of all the rain, “Lake Po’ipu” has appeared in the Po’ipu Beach parking lot and still covers about 3/4ths of it. It is kind of a Brigadoon when we have a lot rain!

The Point at Po’ipu is 50% full, That is up from 32% when we arrived on March 1st. I think it is mostly EMQ, but I don’t know that for a fact.

Thanks for the update! We're glad to know that Pietro’s Pizza and the Gelato Place survived. Did you get a room with a remodeled kitchen? Do you know if they've had time to remodel all the rooms? We postponed our Feb. trip to April and then to August, so we're really looking forward to it now. Glad to hear that the rain finally broke. FYI, MN did have some nice weather, but got 2" of snow yesterday, so things are back to normal here.

None of the remodeling has started. Jamie said they will start next year. During the shutdown they did work on the pool and renovated the Adult Spa.

I'm surprised. Seems like they'd still be getting the income from maintenance fees, and it would have been nice to do them while they weren't occupied. Perhaps COVID restrictions prevented most construction work.

Stopped by the wine store, the store side. Suggest going there and talking to the owners. Lots of fun info.
Picked up a bottle of bottle of Bourbon, Cigar and Chocolate bar, all from same Kauai farm - Blair Estate Chocolate pairs well with Kapahi Bourbon

I guess COVID impacted getting the materials over here. It would have been ideal to do it during the shutdown: provided jobs and no worries about inventory.

Weather continues to be real iffy. Today was scattered rain showers, but it was really windy. I mean, horror of horrors, it blew my Pina Colada over and it was 3/4ths full!

The Point is now at 68% occupancy, but is mostly EMQ. Since the children are allowed in the adult spa, it has become almost a kiddie pool during the day. Yesterday we saw a couple get into the spa with a maybe two year old with diapers! Today we went to sun by the spa and there were six kids in there the oldest was maybe 12. They had their masks and snorkels and were jumping off the sides into the spa.

Starting next week the Honu Cove Bar and Grill at the Point will go back to its normal hours: 8AM -8PM. This is good news because the EMQ folks will be able to get breakfast. I thought it was a good idea.

We went to La Spezia in Koloa for dinner a couple of nights ago and it was outstanding! We plan on going back. The place is not cheap, but not extravagant. The pasta dishes are more than ample. Nancy had a pasta bowl and we had the left overs for dinner last night and there is still enough left for a lunch! The only knock on the place is it is a bit noisy. We were there at 6 PM and next time will go a little later and it may be quieter.. NIce wine list to boot.

We do plan to hit the Wine Store’s small plates before we leave.

Whale action has been minimal, but did see a couple of breaches.

I think it was last week Mt Waialiali had almost 4 feet of rain.

We loved that place. Left two weeks ago after a 3 week stay and went almost every day. Whatever fish they had we bought. Good prices, great fish, fabulous poke bowls.

Stayed at Marriott Waikoloa and loved Brennecke's . Really great local place. Great food and music some nights. Also loved Sueoka Store ® right by the old Koloa town. Good grocery, produce etc. and a more interesting selection of local food than the Big Save or Safeway.
