Finally, the weather pattern has broken and, after 13 days here, we were able to head to the beach and spent the afternoon at Shipwrecks.
Dropped by Koloa Fish Market to pick up something for dinner. You can’t go into the store too look at what they have. They tell you what they have and they will bring it over to the order window to show you. We opted to head over to Big Save to see what they had and bought some Ono. We were disappointed in the Kauai Fish Market last year too. Once they moved to their new digs they really became more of a take-out place rather than a fish market, IMHO, they lost their personality, if you will. They lost three weeks of business from us. Tomorrow we will be heading to Costco to re-supply and then will head to Fish Express to stock up.
A little excitement at The Point at Po’ipu: a couple was arrested and taken away for quarantine violation. If anyone thinks Kaua’i isn’t serious about this COVID thing, think again! You need to have your ducks in line when you get here. A couple arrived on American last week that didn’t understand the protocol and were put back on the airplane and flown back to the mainland. This was not a rumor, we know the gate agent that met the inbound flight.
Dropped over to the Po’ipu Shopping Village and it is pretty well empty. A lot of the shops are empty, but the Pietro’s Pizza is open from 4-8 PM, the Geloto place is open, Whaler’s is open as is Starbucks. There are some clothing stores open, but that is about it, The Thai place is temporarily closed.
There are only two places to eat in Koloa Town: La Spezia and the Wine Store. We are headed to the former tomorrow night for dinner with friends. The Wine Store expanded into the Flower Shop and the Deli next door and serves small plates (tapas) and is adding an entree each night. We peeked in a couple of days ago to check it out and they have done a nice job re-doing the place. They do have a small lanai that is available for dinner. We definitely will be checking it out.
Because of all the rain, “Lake Po’ipu” has appeared in the Po’ipu Beach parking lot and still covers about 3/4ths of it. It is kind of a Brigadoon when we have a lot rain!
The Point at Po’ipu is 50% full, That is up from 32% when we arrived on March 1st. I think it is mostly EMQ, but I don’t know that for a fact.
