Norwegian cruise passenger gets flu, and $47,000 medical bill

  • Mike Cameron and his girlfriend won a free cruise to the Caribbean.
  • Cameron sought treatment on board for the flu.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line billed him $47,000 for the treatment.
The couple bought travel insurance from Norwegian that covered medical expenses up to $20,000. But they have not had luck filing a claim.
"The traveler’s insurance doesn’t want to pay it until we run it by our health insurance. The health insurance doesn’t want to pay it because it’s abroad," explained Masterman.

Cruise line health care is so scammy. After reading that I think I would never go to the cruise line medical center unless it was life or death. Then again, maybe checking the trip insurance would be better.

How many times do I have to advise, " MAKE SURE THE TRAVEL INSURANCE YOU BUY IS 'PRIMARY!' Meaning your claim doesn't have to be first presented to your 'other' insurance. The travel health insurance pays FIRST!
