Hi tuggers

I'm considering renting a week of mine through Redweek.

I'm considering using the verified and protected option which allows for online booking but I won't get paid until two days after checkin.

As the title says I'm a non U.S citizen and what I can't seem to figure out, is if Redweek will withhold 30%-40% of the rental cost to cover any tax' owed to the IRS? If they do is it easy peasy to reclaim some of it after paying what is required?

If reclaiming is the same hassle as reclaiming the FIRPTA tax, then it might not be worth it.

regards

I don't think they withhold income tax. That is what I was told by a redweek cs agent. I decided to continue to rent on my own just in case the rep was mistaken.

I've rented a timeshare through Redweek. The check they send you does not withhold any type of taxes. They will send you the full value of your rental less their fees - like $100.00.

The threshold for reporting is supposed to be $600. Although not all businesses bother.

As a non-US resident, who makes less than $12000 per year from US sources, you can tear such paperwork up. That being said, renting timeshares is the worst way to use them.

There is a tax treaty between USA and Canada. And a form that the IRS provides that you can fill out as a non-citizen...I think it is a W-8BEN, but I am not sure. But I have no idea why redweek would be withholding taxes anyway. I don't use verified because of the cancellation and payment...way to many ways for you to be left holding the bag with a late cancellation.

Thanks everyone.

Among others I own at Grandview and they offer to rent my ownership through them but they withhold part of the income for IRS. That got me to research if Redweek did the same but I can't seem to find if they do or not.

Btw im based out of Europe.

Are you guys U.S based or non U.S based?

My understanding is that its only for non U.S based owners that there might be some withholding.

My Whistler BC TS withholds BC taxes from my rental income if I use them to rent my Whistler TS.
