Who amongst us hasn't unplugged the phone in your villa first thing when arriving, to avoid getting those annoying phone calls from the resort inviting you to an owners update, or to let you know about a great deal for family portraits, or .a yogal class, or .. I used to be one of them, but as I get older, sometimes I forget. ;)

I'm at MVC and I forgot to unplug the phone, and its day 6 of my stay and I have not received a single phone call. However, the daily texts are certainly annoying, especially when they arrive at 7:00 a.m. sharp. Here's a recent text exchange

Tuesday, 7:00 a.m.
Good day Valued Owners and Guest, please be
informed that the Grill will be open from
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesday. All
other food outlets will operate as usual. Have
a Grande day!

Did you really need to send that message about The Grill
at 7:00? Being on vacation, I was hoping to sleep late.
I needed to keep my phone on because my father was in
critical condition and I was awaiting news. Next time
maybe wait until at least 8:00?

Our apologies H family, we will make
sure to send the message later in the future

I have to say, that last exchanged stopped the early messages. I still get messages, but the next one arrived yesterday at 1:39 p.m. and none so far this morning.

I find the daily texts annoying. I don't pay as much attention to the time they arrive. I suspect they have some of them setup on a schedule. Something they need to adjust. Most of it just promoting activities at the resort. I can look at the activities schedule if I am interested in that stuff. Then there is the one here at Westin Kierland Villas promoting their beer and food event on October 25th. Only $100 a person. I am here for a week. I won't be here on the 25th. How does sending a text to current guests really help promote that? I suspect it doesn't cost them anything per text.

Why not set your phone to be on do not disturb until a time of your choosing? You can still choose to allow calls through during that time. (Assuming you have a smart phone)

My father was dying in the hospital and I wanted to be on-call at all times. I normally have do-not-disturb set on my phone, but I took it off. I could have set it so calls from my "favorite contacts" went thru. But then I might miss calls from the hospital.

We are at a MVC resort now and have not received one phone call after 12 days. Also, we have not unplugged our telephone.

I thought they had to have your consent to send the messages. If you come there often and you know whats going on you should tell them you changed your number and give them the home number.

Or my personal favorite, give the number of an ex... ex job, ex lover, ex timeshare...

Have them texting themselves :clap::whooopie:

We have never received a phone call at an MVC resort in our room for a sales meeting in hundreds of nights stayed. Email and calls before? Almost every trip.

We don't get the calls to the room either. That is because we've already signed up either before we get to the resort or when they ask us at checkin!

I always decline the email and telephone calls before we arrive.
That is my responsibility. I, also complete the pre arrival form.
But, she is the one that goes to the front desk and check us into to the resort.

If you have an android or apple device, you can silence notifications, but allow calls from anyone through.

Always unplug the phone. However, who remembers the days when a really nice voice would call with the day's super-fun activities? My kids would fight over who got to listen to the phone message first. Probably aging myself here. Also, I have unplugged the master bedroom phone (haven't en-counter-ed one in the kitchen in a few stays, see what I did there?) but forgot the second bedroom for a couple days. No messages. I think they have given up on room calls.

That said, with the iPhone at least, you can silence the messages by swiping left and selecting the purple bell icon. This I always do. At NCV last month, the messages were over the top because there was a triathlon interrupting the bus service to Crystal Cove ALL Sunday morning.

Was there someone else in your group with a cell phone? You can give the front desk a number other than your own for texts. Or opt out of the texts altogether.
