Anyone been to the Windrifter in Wolfboro, NH lately?? The reviews are over a year old. Sounds like a place we can drive to and bring the boat (16 ft).

I can't believe that NO ONE has been there??? Anyone help? TIA

My computer has been on the fritz -- sorry it took so long to answer.

Full disclosure -- I am on the Windrifter Board, so I am a bit biased.

As you can see from the RCI resort number -- 0047, the Windrifter is one of the original timeshares. And many of the original owners faithfully return each year. This is not a luxury resort, but it is a wonderful place to stay.

The Windrifter is perfect if you want to bring a boat. The docks are at the Yacht Club, in the heart of the Wolfeboro harbor. They are well maintained and gas is close by. After you make your reservation, you need to notify the office that you will be bringing a boat. They will need copies of your registration and insurance before they assign a dock space. Peddle boats and a row boat are available free for guests.

You can park your boat trailer in the lot at the Villas and Inn. Parking down at the Yacht Club is tight unless you are staying there and have an assigned space, but there is usually ample parking on the street nearby.

There are two Windrifter sites, and they are each a very different experience. The Villas and the Inn overlook a golf course and do not have views of the lake. The atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing. All of the Villa units are spacious studios and have either a porch or a balcony. The units at the Inn are all different -- it has a very New England B&B feel to it. There are studios and one or two bedroom units. They all have either a balcony or access to a shared balcony.

The common area of the Inn has a free wireless hot spot. (I am pushing to have this expanded.) Phone calls are free, so dial up access from your unit is not a problem. The indoor pool, the tennis courts, sauna and laundry are in this complex.

There are eight units in two buildings at the Yacht Club -- 2 studios and 6 one bedrooms. (The Yacht Club is just over a mile from the Inn.) All of the configurations are different and all have balconies or porches with gorgeous views of the harbor and lake. In addition to the boat docks, there is a swimming dock, picnic tables and gas grills. The main building has a large lounge with bathrooms and changing facilities for the guests from the Villas and Inn.

The Yacht Club atmosphere is very much like a family reunion, with new members being welcomed every year. Many of the families have been going for the same week for decades. This will be our 5th year of ownership and if we could find another summer week for sale, we would snap it up.

Just one block off Main Street, the Yacht Club is in the middle of whatever hustle and bustle Wolfeboro has. In a less than ten minute excursion at the crack of dawn, you can get fresh baked muffins from the Yum Yum bakery, pick up your newspapers and be back on your balcony by the time the coffee has brewed. Restaurants of every price range and cuisine abound. Several nights a week there will be some sort of performance in Cate Park.

Hope to see you at the Windrifter!
