Thinking of possibly using Club Pass to book some time in Newport. There are quite a few Wyndham resorts there.

Appreciate input on which people prefer and why.

TIA

If you go to the resort reviews, I think it is for Newport Onshore (but can’t remember for sure) a Tugger that has stayed at all of them in multiple units does a detailed comparison of all options. Really useful.

The season is very short so if you are looking for summer you need to be at 10 months because the demand is skewed into about 3 months.

We love the In. On Long Wharf. It is only a studio but is right on the water and usually the room we get allows us to watch the lobster boats come and out of the dicking area under our window. It is close to downtown and we love walking. There is some inconveniences as the amenities are across the street at the Long Wharf which also have larger units but we think the view is worth the little inconvenience.

How hard is a summer week at any of the Newport locations ?

Exceptionally hard -- all but impossible. See Post #2 for why.

I have stayed at Long Wharf, Inn on Long Wharf, and Newport Onshore.

My personal preference is Onshore because there are balconies overlooking the water and the unit size is a bit larger (the 3 bedrooms are ENORMOUS). The location is also my favorite as I can walk to the Cliff Walk, the grocery store, etc. Some negatives: The indoor pool is kind of small, and you definitely need to go outside to get to it, which can be a lot to handle in the winter. There are 2 units per floor per elevator, so if you have a bunch of people going and multiple units, you may likely have to go outside to get to the other units.

Long Wharf pros: awesome indoor/outdoor pool with a fireplace/game area. Movie Theater. Small game room. Some activities for the kids and adults. Pretty good concierge who had some great suggestions. The rooms were more updated than at Onshore, but I haven't been to Onshore in a while. If you are in the main building, it is easy to get to the pool/theater/etc. Cons: 3 bedroom units are really small and/or awkwardly laid out. The kitchen was a hallway in one unit we had and in another unit the table was broken into 2 tables on either side of the living room, so there was next to no living area. The bathrooms are really small as well, even in the 2 bedroom units. No or very few balconies and very few units have a water view, which is likely obstructed by the yard across the street.

Inn on Long Wharf pros: All units have a water view. The roof deck is great for viewing the water (but you can use it from Long Wharf, too). You have access to the pool and activities at Long Wharf (across the street). If you do not need a kitchen, but want to have some small kitchen convenience, you have a kitchenette. The living area and bed area are divided by a bathroom, so if you open the sofabed, it is like 2 bedrooms with a partial barrier in between.

If you have specific needs/questions, let me know, and I may have an answer. We go during Spring Break every year and have gone at Christmas time as well. Got lucky to get there last summer, too.

If you are looking for summer, we were able to get into the Long Wharf during the weekdays in August of last year, which may have been the result of the new website's wonkiness. I don't think I have seen anything come up at Onshore or in July at any of them.

Also, I never stayed there, but Inn on the Harbor is right next to Onshore with water views. There are only 1 bedroom units there, and they have their own indoor pool.

NO SALES STAFF at any of them! Very helpful and nice staff all around.

I have driven past Bay Voyage, and that looked nice as well, but is across the bridge from the main part of Newport if you want to do Cliff Walk, etc. daily.

For me the best resorts have to have a full kitchen and be centrally located. I have owned at Newport Onshore and currently own a summer float at Long Wharf. My top three in order of preference (I have stayed at all 3) are:
1. Onshore - Most centrally located so it is easy to walk from the resort down both Thames St and America's Cup Ave. Nice water views from many units. One possible negative is if you are in one of the buildings closest to America's Cup there is a restaurant next door which has very loud music until midnight on weekends so if you go to bed early I would stay away from those buildings.
2. Long Wharf - Centrally located for walking down America's Cup Ave. Can also walk down Thames but Thames is a bit farther walk so not as convenient as being at Onshore. Best facilities (pool, gym, movie theater, etc.) than the other 2. You can fresh fish right from the boat docks next door. Close to the tourist office.
3. The Wellington - I know, not a Wyndham but it is the next best resort in Newport. At the far end of Thames so it is centrally location for everything on Thames but a longer walk to America's Cup Ave. Many units have nice water views.

I have stayed at the 4 resorts in Newport, not the 2 in Jamestown. I truly love the Inn at Long Wharf if I only need a studio. I am not terribly impressed with the decor of the Wyndham Long Wharf or The Inn on the Harbor. Wyndham Onshore if a great location and unit if looking for something larger than a studio. All the resorts have great staff and terrific locations. Long Wharf has the best amenities from movie theater, indoor/outdoor pool, etc.

Thank you everyone for your input. So far its looking like Onshore is the best bet for our needs.

I rented several 2BR units at Onshore for the last week in March or first week in April. It will certainly not be summer-like, maybe not even spring-like, but if you are going to Newport to check some historical sites, tour some of the mansions, day trip to Boston or Cape Cod, and chow down on magnificent cold water seafood, you can do that in March/April just as well and won't have crowds to fight. Even in mid-summer, the Atlantic Ocean and Narragansett Bay are too cold to be enjoyable.

Dupe post.
