In June we will be taking our 3rd trip to NCV. We haven't been in 10 years though, and there hasn't been any recent "best buildings at NCV" threads, so I will ask here. But first let me tell you what's important to us:

We want to be within a fairly short walking distance to the main building and main/Catalina pool, though it doesn't have to be THE closest building. We've never gotten a villa with much of a view and that is not as important as being near the pool and the fitness center, although I certainly wouldn't REFUSE a villa with a view. :) We got villas in buildings 2400 (view of the Pacific but mainly of the towel bins and pool bathrooms) and 3600 (the main building, tho I have no photos or recollection of the 'view'). What about 2200 and 2300? They LOOK close to the main building and pool. I know there's a lot of steps, but that's OK. Do they have a decent view?

How easy is it to get to the beach if you're not in one of the 1xxx buildings?

I look forward to comments and suggestions. Thanks.

2100, 2200, 2300 and 2400 are very close to the lobby. 3200 and 3300 are also close.

If you google Marriott Newport coast resort map it'll show you a variety of maps.

I’ve been in 3200 and agree, close to main pool and decent views. Here are 2 shots from our villa...and we were on the lowest floor, right above the parking...so anything higher would have even better views.

I recall staying in 2200 a couple times when they were still building out the resort and having a good ocean view on either the top floor or the next floor down. The kids club and bike rental used to be in the first floor there before the existing location by the pool was finished.

I 've got the resort map so I can see where the buildings are located, but it doesn't show views and elevation. A building may look close to the main building on the map, but it may be separated by a whole lotta steps and may not be close after all. And all the buildings look like they'd have great views, but 2400 actually looks onto the roof of the pool bathroom. So I wanted to see what people who've been there recently thought.

It sounds like if I want to be near the main area (and be somewhere different), I should hope for 2100, 2200, 2300, 3200, or 3300. Thanks.

We love staying at the top of the hill for the best views, minus building 4700 (it has no ocean views). Our last 4 stays were in 5000, same unit. The pool, views, fire pit and cabanas are great. There is also a small exercise room in 5001. The shuttle also takes you to several places off/on property.

***A friend went last October on a promotion. She was placed across the street from the check in building with a view of the parking lot/garage. She was extremely disappointed because we always raved about our wonderful stays. Even though my first request anywhere is always a recently renovated unit, I prefer the top of the hill at NCV despite these units not being updated.

Is there any particular email or phone extension we should call to ask for villa assignment? We have a reservation for last week of May 2023. The operator told me that we are too early to ask for villa assignment.

You are probably a little early. I don't even know if the reservation information gets sent to the resorts this early. They can usually only see a few weeks out. I usually call a couple weeks ahead of checkin.

Do you call the number for the resort or some other number? My family is checking in on May 22.

If you go to maps.google.com and plug in Marriott Newport Coast, you can see the orientation of the building with respect to other buildings and the ocean. Then if you go to the Satellite view and go to "2D" you can get an idea of the view. You can make the image revolve so the you can see the ocean. Also, hold down the cntl button and left click and hold, you can orient the image.

So that could give you a rough idea of the view, but if you are on a lower floor, your view may be compromised by trees or roof tops.

BTW, at the front desk, when you check in, they can actually show you the view from the deck of the actual unit.

Thanks... that was a great suggestion! But what do you mean by "you can make the image revolve so you can see the ocean" ? I haven't been able to manage that feat.

1. Go to maps.google.com and type in Marriott newport coast.
2. Click on layers > satellite
3. On the right side of the image there are six symbols. Click on the one that looks like a compass and rotate the image to that "south" (towards the ocean) is up.
4. Click on "3D" and it'll turn into "2D". Then press and hold down CTRL (control) while simultaneously pressing the left mouse button. (I'm using a Windows PC, if you are using a tablet or a phone I have no idea what will happen). Then move the mouse forward and back, right and left, in arcs. You can rotate the image, you can get closer to the horizon, you can orient yourself at the ocean looking at the villas (kind of).

But, I think that the most important thing for a good view is get an upper or top floor.

I find that Google Earth Pro (I have Mac, but it is free) provides great imagery. This isn't a drone shot that I took (I don't have any), it is from Google Earth Pro. You can navigate around;

We own at Newport Coast and always have a great time even when we are not in a view room. Despite the pleas for a better room by nearly every guest, it just won't work.

These are my old figures and I assume they are still reliable:
1. There are 697 villas in 43 buildings. That's about 16 villas per building.
2. Each building has about 5 top floor villas. So, there are about 215 total top floor villas.
3. Some top floor villas have a great view, but many views are blocked by other buildings, buildings facing the wrong direction, being way up the hill, etc. If you assume only half of the top floor villas have a good ocean view, that will mean about 110 villas out of the 697, about 20%, would get a great ocean view.
4. Then, some owners stay several weeks and probably tie up many better villas for an extended time.

If someone has a better handle on the numbers, please feel free to correct my meager effort.

We've been happier when we have requested a villa near some resort feature we really like such as certain pools, tennis courts, activity areas for the kids, etc.

Just enjoy the resort - there aren't many places like Newport Coast Villas, even in California. And, MVC is certainly not going to make any more resorts like this one.

With your request The best building would be the 3800 & 3900 blds. Both are close to the main lobby and pool and all rooms with great views.

Oh..THAT'S what the compass is for! :) Cool...thanks.

My son and daughter-in-law just let me know that they would prefer to be up high in the 5xxx buildings. I assumed they wanted to be near the big pool and main building so I'm glad I asked them. Not sure what our chances are for the 5xxx buildings, given we are exchanging into NCV using our MVC.

I'll be ok with wherever we're placed. I don't anticipate being at the resort all that much.

I know it’s been a year, but in which building did you end up staying? And how was it? We usually stay in the 3600 or 2400 buildings, but the last few years, the main pool area has gotten so full in the summer we are thinking perhaps staying up in the 5000 area by that pool area, in hopes of it being quieter this summer. Thanks for any info you can share.

We were in 5000, top floor. It was great! Nice view of the water and close to the pool and fitness area for that cluster of buildings. Parking was tight...only 1 car was allowed in the lot and we had 2 cars, so one had to find parking on the street, which wasn't easy at night.

Thanks for the follow up! I’m glad it went great, and the picture is beautiful. If you have another trip to ncv, would you return to the 5000 villas or go back to the 3600 or 2400s? Was the pool at the 5000s packed? Thanks so much!

I've been at NCV several times and the main pool is usually more crowded than the one by 5000. I have never been to NCV during spring breaks or a major holiday, but I have never seen the 5000 pool packed.

I would definitely go for 5000 again. The pool wasn't very crowded. I don't think I even used it that trip, though. The walk to the main building wasn't bad, but it was all uphill coming back.

Not a Marriott owner but have stayed there three times, always enjoyed the upper pool area, there are tennis courts there also. We also prefer the quick resort access road nearby with a traffic light.

We only went to the main pool once to have lunch at the snack bar, super crowded in comparison.

We go to NCV at least 4 week a year. If you want to be really near the upper pool then you want the 48xx- 50xx bldgs, stay away from the 46xx, 47xx and 51xx bldgs as their views are more limited.

We always request the 40xx- 45xx bldgs for great views and relatively quite, just one staircase from the upper pool.
