new member needs help

This whole process is new to me, the timeshare business, the exchange business, and this chat process. I just purchased 4 1 week timeshares in arizona through a resale situation and I know that we will be using at least 2 of the weeks. I am told these are the highest times and will exchange well. These times are for weeks 1-20. I am looking for comments on how to handle the other two weeks. These are managed by Shell Vacation Resorts. Should I stick with then or look for rci or ii for help? Is it possible for me to use the other weeks for my daughter and family at other resorts. Your suggestions and comments are most welcome.

First of all, Welcome to TUG! :hi:

We have a board a little further down called Newbies Help, that would be a good place for you to start - be sure to read the 3 posts at the very top of the page that are links to introductions to timesharing.

Also, since you own points, the Points System Discussions Board would also be of interest to you. Shell has some really nice resorts - we love the Kauai Coast Resort at the Beach Boy, on Kauai. On the Points board, be sure to tell them how many Shell points you own, because that will determine what is available to you. Shell Points Chart (And yes, assuming you have enough points, you can make Resvs. for others.)

Another good source of info. for Newbies is the ADVICE PAGE.

This board (where you posted) is actually for questions about the BBS itself, so do some exploring on the other boards I listed above. (Be careful not to repost the exact same post on another board, because they frown on that around here - a Mod will probably move this to the Newbies board for you.)

And just so you know, this isn't really "chat" - this is a bulletin board! :)

OK there are several things going on:
1. Most Shell managed resorts have many of the owners has not joined Shell vacation club (SVC). (I'm an owner at a SVC resort who isn't a member of SVC). So are the units you bought, shell vacation club (SVC) units or are they just units at a resort which shell manages and are outside of SVC?

2. All SVC owners trade with RCI through a shell SVC-RCI account which SVC manages. So if your a SVC owner, you must go through SVC to trade.

3. Many owners at SVC resorts choose to stay out of SVC not because they don't like SVC offerings but because the MFs charged by SVC are much higher than the MFs charged to non SVC owners. Owners of these units can trade with either II or RCI (depends on the exchange company before SVC took over management)

Hope that helps

If you have the RCI/SVC account. Can you get online and check extra vacations or do you have to call SVC to do it? Thanks.

Be sure to read the SVC knowledge thread

Hello marginman, and welcome to TUG. Most of your questions about the Shell Vacations Club can be answered in the knowledge thread placed as a "sticky" at the top of the Point System Discussions. Here is the direct link: http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44941

The thing that is not clear from your post is whether you own weeks at a Shell resort, or whether you own points. It sounds like you might own weeks since you refer to specific weeks you can stay at your resort. The knowledge thread referred to above is primarily about SVC points and how to make best use of them. Let us know what you have, and we can probably help you further.

blr666, your question is not clear. If you are asking about Extra Vacations, anyone who has a direct RCI membership can check these; it has nothing to do with the Shell VC. However, I think you might be asking about how to access RCI if you are a SVC member. If so, the short answer is you can't; you must go thru an SVC agent. Reading the SVC knowledge thread (http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44941) may also shed additional light on this subject for you. Once you've done that, please do clarify your question, and I'm sure that someone can help you further.

Hi Catlovers, I am a weeks owner with RCI so I am able to search Extra Vacations and book it online. I just purchased some SVC points and I know that comes with an RCI account. Am I able to use this RCI account to search for Extra Vacations or do I have to call SVC to search for me? I did read the threads about SVC, but just wanted some clarification. Thanks.

No you cannot access your SVC RCI account, only the SVC agent can. However, the Extra Vacations inventory you see with your RCI weeks account should not be any different than what the SVC rep will see. When it comes to regular inventory though, the SVC rep may be able to look up more inventory than you can. S/he looks up both points and weeks inventory to make your exchange using your SVC points. In theory, if you have both a RCI weeks account and an RCI points account, you should be able to see everything the SVC rep can; however, this has not been independently proven :) !

Hi Catlovers, thanks so much for the information. I was hoping to do away with my RCI weeks account since my weeks trade with II too. Thanks again.
