Hello all..

We are new to the points system. We recently purchased at Kingsland after a
preview vacation last year. Yes full retail. We now realize our mistake!!
We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Grand Waikikian and Kingsland
using all of our points and bonus points and realize our initial purchase of 3400 points is not going to get us much.

We would like to add more points but not sure how to go about it. What we are sure about is not paying full price. Yup, we're getting calls to upgrade our ownership!

I love the Grand Waikikian and would love to return there perhaps more the Kingsland.
Any suggestions or comments are welcome. So happy I found this site!

Thank you

Welcome to TUG -- and those are great properties.

Where is your 3,400 point package? Is it an Orlando or Las Vegas property?

If you would like more points, best recommendation is to buy another property on the resale market (redweek.com or ebay). I've purchased two this way.

HGVC is a great system and I know that you will continue to enjoy it!

Best,

Greg

Thanks Greg

We purchased at Kingsland , phase 2 -3400 points

Also own 2 weeks at Westin St. John, fixed weeks fixed units so purchasing points at a resort you do not intend to stay at is foreign to us

You may want to buy a higher-point package resale and then unload the original unit.
Otherwise, you'll end up paying MF's for each additional unit you purchase.

If you don't want to do this on your own, two HGVC brokers are often recommended here:
Seth Nock ( www.sellingtimeshares.net/ ) and Judy Kozlowsky ( www.judykoz.com )

In HGVC's point system, many folks will never darken the door of their home resort.
They are content to use club reservations which are far more flexible (3N min, check-in any day).
Home resort booking windows (12-9 mo. out) can be important in high demand locales (Hawaii, NYC).

I understand your point -- I owned fixed weeks at Maui Ocean Club because I love that property so much.

But I've come to admire the mini-systems (HGVC, Starwood) where you an use points to stay at a place other than your own property.

I purchased Westin Kierland so that I could use the StarOptions 8 months out at other properties.

HGVC is even better than Starwood, because it is intended to be a true point system. So even though its different from your current focus, I would consider relying on the reservation system for your target reservation, rather than thinking that you need to own it.

WSJ you need to own if you want to consistently visit at a specific time. Same with Maui Ocean Club. But few HGVC properties (really just Lagoon Tower and Kalia, in my opinion) need to be directly owned.

Make sense? I hope that helps!

Best,

Greg
