I booked my annual Thanksgiving Williamsburg trip this morning (confirmed an RCI Weeks OGS match).

When checking out I noticed a "1 in 2" restriction now apparently applies to The Colonies. If this previously existed, I had not noticed it. (I own there so presumably it will not impact me.)

This prompted me to dig a little more. The same restriction is apparently now also in place for VV Williamsburg.

However, it does not look like an across-the-board VV (managed by Daily Management) thing. No similar restriction on Grandview, the Berkshires, or Parkway. They have also not placed any restriction on the VV Patriots Inn resort in Williamsburg.

Does anyone know anything more about this. I am curious if it applies to VV internal trades through RCI weeks if one does not own at those resorts. I would not think Williamsburg would be an obvious place to put a "1 in x" restriction in place even if "1 in 2" is a minimalist restriction.

Looking at the urgent info is more. Perhaps this is new, perhaps it isn't:

Non-RCI Members or guests of non-RCI members: you or anyone in your party can only stay a combined total of 2 weeks (or utilize 2 units) per 12-month period within the following group of resorts: DD68 THE BERKLEY, LAS VEGAS, DJ36 PATRIOTS INN, DJ37 VVIL AT WILLIAMSBURG, DJ38 THE COLONIES AT WILLIAMSBURG, DJ50 THE BERKLEY, ORLANDO, D567 BERKSHIRE MOUNTAIN LODGE. Violations will be canceled.

Non-RCI members or guests of non-RCI members: you or anyone in your party can only stay a combined total of 2 weeks (or utilize 2 units) per 12-month period within the following group of resorts: 5773 VVIL AT WESTON, 6057 VVIL IN THE BERKSHIRES, 6389 THE CLIFFS AT PEACE CANYON, 6923 GRANDVIEW AT LAS VEGAS, and 7559 MIZNER PLACE AT WESTON. Violations will be canceled, with No exceptions.

There has been a notice like that on the Massanutten Resorts for a long time.

It must be aimed at the Armed Services Vacation club or some other group that uses the same data as RCI.

Think about it. This language would never apply to an RCI customer or someone legitimately using an RCI booking. It starts out "Non-RCI Members or guests of non-RCI members....."

The only people it would apply to are people booking outside of RCI.

I decided to ask RCI who the restriction applies to via their chat feature.

The response I received is that while the restriction does not apply to The Colonies owners, the restriction DOES apply to people owning other VV properties and trading in.

Davis B. (3:28:49 PM):Hello and thank you for chatting with RCI. My name is Davis and I'll be your Travel Guide. How can I help you?
Me (3:30:16 PM):I have a question on a resort with a new "1 in 2 rule" restrictions. It looks like it is newly in place for The Colonies (DJ 38). Is there an exemption to the restriction for ALL vacation village owners?
Davis B. (3:30:43 PM):Happy to help with that! One moment while I pull up your account!
Me (3:32:02 PM):I don't think it will apply to me since I own there, but I want to be able to let other people in a timeshare group know what the restriction means and who it applies (or doesn't apply) to.
Davis B. (3:32:54 PM):That makes sense! I am looking into that right now
Davis B. (3:35:04 PM):It does not apply to owners, would you like me to book you something there today?
Me (3:36:02 PM): Does it apply to people who don't own The Colonies, but own another Vacation Village property .... like Vacation Village Parkway?
Davis B. (3:36:52 PM):One moment while I look that up
Me (3:37:03 PM):In the past all Vacation Village properties could make internal exchanges for $159 through RCI weeks. I am wondering if the new limit applies to those. Thanks!
Davis B. (3:38:18 PM):Looking into it I see that the 1 in 2 rule would apply to nonowners even if they are Vacation Village owners

I am kind of disappointed they are doing this. I have been considering getting rid of my the Colonies week and switching to something else that is a more efficient RCI Weeks trader. As is, this restriction is not a huge deal. There are three VV properties in Williamsburg, so it is not like you couldn't visit every year on internal trades. This year will be the fourth Thanksgiving in a row we have spent there.
